‘Today Show’s’ Jenna Bush Hager Just Made This Announcement
Jenna Bush Hager of the Today Show and Today with Hoda and Jenna came out of maternity leave to join her morning show co-hosts for their annual Halloween celebration. Hager has been on leave since giving birth to her son Henry ‘Hal’ on August 2, but has still stayed on the job with her popular book club, Read With Jenna, delivering her picks for September and October by video message.
With several other professional projects in the works, Hager just shared some significant news related to her post at the Today desk.
The NBC co-host already has big plans this month. In mid-November, Hager will be traveling with her twin sister Barbara Pierce Bush on a tour to promote their new children’s book “Sisters First.” Sharing the title from the 2017 memoir by the sisters, the story tells the tale of a young girl who welcomes the baby sister she hoped for and follows the relationship that forms into a beautiful bond.
“It is our wish for all women and girls — whether blood sisters or dear friends — that the power of sisterhood fills their lives with confidence and joy,” the authors said in a statement to People.
But wait, there’s more! On October 11, which was the International Day of the Girl, Hager shared in a video message on Today that she’s partnered with Michelle Obama and the Obama Foundation for an educational initiative. Traveling with the former First Lady to Vietnam in December, Hager explained that their goal is to encourage girls to stay in school.
“I’m so excited, guys!” Hager told her co-hosts, according to People. “There are a lot of girls who aren’t in school, but as many people who won’t take that as an answer, who want to see these girls succeed. There are these incredible, resilient people that are up for the challenge.”
Despite still being on maternity leave, Hager couldn’t pass up the chance for the annual Today Show Halloween celebration. Teaming up with co-host Willie Geist, Hager took on the role of Baby from the 1987 blockbuster hit Dirty Dancing, recreating the infamous dance at the close of the film with Geist as Johnny.
According to Today.com, the two put a new twist on the legendary lift at the end of the dance. As Hager ran toward Geist, the camera cut to him outside the Today studios and performed the lift with a Baby-costumed mannequin.
Announcing her return
During her return visit to Today, Hager announced that she’ll be back at work full-time on November 11. “I can’t wait,” she said, according to Today.com.
The timing of Hager’s maternity leave was during the hiatus of Hoda Kotb, who also took leave for the adoption of her second daughter Hope Catherine. Hager had just replaced former co-host Kathie Lee Gifford when Kotb revealed her happy news, so there was a bit of musical chairs at the news desk for awhile. “Is the timing ideal? Not really. We are launching something new and I’ll be taking maternity leave this fall. But it’s not about that,” Hager told People in May.
With Hager sharing her return date, Kotb joked that they can finally mark “the real launch” of Today with Hoda and Jenna since the two have actually only been together on the show for one week.
“This is gonna be like a whole new start,” Hager said.
Watch for Hager’s return on NBC’s Today with Hoda and Jenna on November 11!
