‘Today Show’s’ Sheinelle Jones Just Made This Announcement
Sheinelle Jones, co-host of the Today Show’s third hour and Weekend Today, has learned to be an expert at juggling career and family. With three young children – a 10-year-old and 7-year-old twins – and a demanding career in broadcast journalism on a top morning news program, Jones has become a master at prioritizing.
The co-host recently made a change to her very busy schedule and shared details with viewers.
The balancing act
Jones recently opened up about struggling with guilt over not having enough time with her kids. Married to Uche Ojeh since 2007, the mom of three works on cutting herself some slack. “It’s fine to take a breath. Just give yourself a break – you stressing out and having guilt is not helping anybody,” she said, according to SheKnows. “And it’s certainly not helping us physically or emotionally. So if you give yourself a break, you’re giving yourself some extra wiggle room to be a better mom.”
While some may swear by structure, Jones revealed she works best with taking the day as it comes. “My day is always different… If I’m being honest, my routine is the lack of routine,” she told Parade in August. “I just turned 41 in April and everybody has been teasing me because my joke is that I’ve been really trying to figure out a way to find a routine, even though things are always kind of crazy because in this business you never really know where you’re going to be the next day.”
Between the needs of her job and her kids, Jones confessed that her schedule is more round-the-clock than 9-5. “I don’t even have shifts, I have 24-hour non-stop [days]. The only break I have in my schedule is when I’m sleeping,” she said. “And when I go to sleep at night, it’s because I physically can’t keep my eyes open anymore. There are days when I fall asleep in my clothes and wake up with one lash on. I’m always going, [but] I’m working on slowing down a little bit. The shift never ends.”
Some news of her own
Working six days a week co-hosing Today’s third hour and Weekend Today has caught up to the working mom, where she has decided to lessen her professional load and announced a change to the morning show’s audience.
“As much as I love my Saturday Today family, this is going to be my last day anchoring the show. Since I’m so busy on the weekdays, I thought, you know what, I should probably see those three children that I have at home,” Jones shared, according to Today.com. “They’re 7-year-old twins and a 10-year-old — Kayin, Clara and Uche — every time I look up, I feel like they look like they’re a little bit older so I’m going to be home with them on Saturday mornings.”
Though she won’t be at the desk of Weekend Today going forward, Jones will still be alongside her fellow Today co-hosts Monday through Friday mornings. Choosing to leave the Saturday program wasn’t easy for the journalist. “It has been an incredible five plus years,” she said of her time on the show.
Jones has earned an impressive fan base during her time on Today, most likely due to her strong journalistic instincts and her focus to always take the high road. “You just send out positive vibes,” Jones told SheKnows in May. “I think if we can each just take a moment to be responsible for what comes out of our mouths, what comes out of our fingers when we type, we’ll get a lot further and I think we can overpower the negativity.”
The Today co-host revealed that staying true to herself and living authentically protects her from those who choose to go the negative route. “If you project reality and if you’re authentic, it takes the sting out of it a little bit,” Jones said. “Trolls are more likely to attack when they smell like somebody’s insincere. So for me, frankly, you can’t tell me anything about myself that I don’t already know.”
While fans will miss seeing Jones on Saturdays, they’ll still be able to catch her on Today during the week!
