Is Tom Bergeron Coming Back to ‘Dancing With the Stars?’

It’s not a stretch to say that Dancing With the Stars is one of the most popular reality TV shows of all time. After all, a show doesn’t plow through 27 seasons in 14 years without doing something right. Despite the success, Season 28 didn’t return as soon as fans wanted. Instead of a spring 2019 run, the show will return to ABC in the fall. “I can confirm that it will definitely be returning in the fall,” ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke said on Feb. 5, 2019, according toPeople. Is Tom Bergeron returning to the Dancing With the Stars stage, too? Here’s what we know.

News about Dancing With the Stars’ return is so recent, so we don’t know all the details about who we’ll see on the show.

Lindsay Arnold, Witney Carson, Val Chmerkovskiy, Mark Ballas, and Emma Slater are all longtime pros on the show, and they were part of the cast in 2018. We don’t know for sure if they’ll return, but we suspect they’ll be in the mix. Australia native Sharna Burgess is heading back home to work the Down Under version of the show, but she should be available to come back for Season 28 of the U.S. version.

As for the celebrity contestants, we’ll find out more about who will compete the closer we get to the get to the debut.

When will Season 28 start?

The details about Season 28 of Dancing With the Stars are few and far between right now, and that includes the start date. Previous fall seasons of the show debuted midway through September, and we suspect ABC will stick to that schedule for Season 28.

The one constant over the years on Dancing With the Stars has been Tom Bergeron. He’s manned the mic ever since the show started in 2005, and our hunch tells us he’ll walk across the stage when Season 28 starts.

Again, we don’t have any insider knowledge, but our guess is he’ll return. He doesn’t have much else keeping him busy. He produced a short titled The Messenger in 2018, and he also appeared in a documentary called Eyes of Faith, but other than that, his schedule was a little light after DWTS Season 27 ended.

Bergeron makes a fortune for hosting the show

His light schedule notwithstanding, Tom Bergeron has another reason to return to Dancing With the Stars — he makes a fortune hosting the show.

The contestants get paid a base salary of $125,000, and they make more the further the advance on the show. Meanwhile, Bergeron makes $150,000 per episode, which translates to more than $1.6 million for an 11-episode season.

As anyone who’s watched the show knows, Dancing With the Stars is all about pairing celebrity contestants with pro dancers. But how do producers pick the partners? It’s all about body type. Since ballroom dancing is such a physical activity, the stars and the pros usually are similar height- and weight-wise.

Producers also attempt to pair partners who have similar personalities. Backstage drama is OK, but if there’s too much drama, it could derail the whole show.
