This Is the Only Thing Tom Hiddleston Can Tell Us About His Upcoming Disney+ Loki Series
Acclaimed actor Tom Hiddleston has brought us equal parts joy and frustration as Loki, arguably one of the greatest villains in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Now, he’s getting his own series on Disney+, though given his character’s death in Avengers: Infinity War, there are a lot of details missing. And sadly, Hiddleston can only reveal this one bit of information about the upcoming project.
How he earned the role in the MCU
Thor, the first film to feature the Gods of Thunder and Mischief, was directed by Kenneth Branagh, who you may recognize from his roles as Gilderoy Lockhart in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets or Murder on the Orient Express as Hercule Poirot. He was responsible for Hiddleston’s entrance into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
“It happened quite organically, almost by accident,” Hiddleston told the Hollywood Reporter. “He saw me in a Shakespeare production in a theater in London, then asked me to perform with him in the television series Wallander for the BBC. We then did a Chekhov play in the West End, and then he cast me as Loki in the first Thor film. So actually we ended up spending about 12 months working together in different media.”
Here’s how you know may Hiddleston
If you’re not familiar with Loki and the MCU, you’re one of few. However, you may recognize Hiddleston from other projects. In 2011, he starred in two other films of note: Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris and Steven Spielberg’s film adaptation of the play War Horse. Hiddleston has gone on to star in other big-budget movies such as Crimson Peak and Kong: Skull Island.
However, the thespian has also kept up with his theater roots, starring as the eponymous character in a 2017 production of Hamlet. He also dabbled in small-screen work, starring in the 2016 Emmy-winning miniseries The Night Manager. And, for a time, he was known as Taylor Swift’s significant other — though that didn’t last very long.
The sweet thing he said about Chris Hemsworth
Hiddleston has worked alongside Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth, in six Marvel films. Undoubtedly, the two have become close, and the British actor only had kind things to say about working with the hero.
“The most exciting collaborations that I’ve had are international,” he told THR. “I’ve made six films with an actor called Chris Hemsworth. He’s Australian, I’m British. We came from very different acting disciplines, but we played brothers for 10 years. I’ve learned so much from him, he’s learned so much from me. I hope we managed to pull off a convincing act as brothers!”
Hiddleston really can’t share any details about the series
Since the announcement of Disney+, a new streaming service scheduled to come to fruition in Nov. 2019, Marvel fans have been given tidbits of information about new series featuring their MCU favorites. But as usual, Disney/Marvel is keeping tight-lipped about these offerings.
Hiddleston has always been a great secret-keeper for Marvel, and he’s not letting slip anything about his own character’s vehicle, which is said to be a miniseries, “All I can tell you is that it is called Loki. It is a new departure … but I can’t explain why,” he told THR.
