Why Tom Holland is inspired by The Rock

Holland’s celebrity idol is The Rock and for some very good reasons. He is inspired by the actor’s work ethic, sharing in the new issue of GQ Style why he has modeled his career after The Rock. After all, The Rock continues hustling and working hard… and is humble despite all of his fame and success.

In the September issue of GQ Style, Holland shared why The Rock is his go-to for career inspo, noting, “The Rock is someone I’ve always looked up to.” He explained, “His whole thing is: Be the hardest-working person in the room. It’s something that I’ve really taken to heart. And when I heard him say that for the first time, I was like, That is a really good saying.”

Holland even started talking with The Rock on social media sharing, “He’s such an inspirational dude.” He’s so inspired by the buff star, Holland noted: “I was like, ‘I’m going to the f**king gym.’”

Holland’s attitude is so down-to-earth

Holland made a bit of discovery on his rise to fame, sharing: “I never understood when you watch, like, young celebrities go off the rails. I’m like, ‘Why do you do that? Just chill and be cool.'”

He continued on how eye-opening things become when you’re in the spotlight, noting: “And it wasn’t until I felt the pressure of, like, ‘Is that person taking a picture of me? Is this person taking a picture of me?’ The pressure of that.”

Holland also did some name dropping, but in the most perfect way, as he’s truly gained some big-name pals in his journey. Holland explained: “I’ve been so lucky that I’ve had friends like Zendaya… friends like RDJ, friends like Hemsworth. Now a friend like Jake Gyllenhaal, where I can really kind of confide in them, ’cause they’ve been through it before.”

He noted: “But I think the best piece of advice I got or saw was how you’re working with actors who are at the top of the game. Like, it doesn’t get much higher than where they’re at, but they’re also professional and so nice and so humble. So it was a nice eye-opener for me that, like, you can work in this industry and be at that level and not be a d**k. You know? ‘Cause you hear all the horror stories.”

Holland weighs in about his future as Spider-Man

Of course, Spider-Man fans’ worlds were rocked when it was announced that Sony and Marvel were splitting over Spider-Man. Many wondered what that meant for Holland and the future of Spider-Man not being in the MCU.

Holland will continue to play the character and explained in an email to the interviewer after the news of the Sony and Marvel split broke: “I’m not shy about expressing how incredible the last five years have been with Marvel.”

He continued: “I’ve truly had the time of my life, and in so many respects, they have made my dreams come true as an actor. Sony has also been really good to me, and the global success of Spider-Man: Far From Home is a real testament to their support, skill and commitment. The legacy and future of Spidey rests in Sony’s safe hands. I really am nothing but grateful, and I’ve made friends for life along the way.”
