Tom Holland Wants to Play These 2 Iconic Characters After Spider-Man
Before stepping into his career catalyzing role as Peter Parker, Tom Holland appeared in The Impossible opposite Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor and starred in the West End production of Billy Elliot. He was already climbing the Hollywood ladder before the web-slinging role found its way to his desk; however, Spider-Man virtually turned Tom Holland into a household name overnight.
Tom Holland has portrayed Spider-Man since the 2016 film Captain America: Civil War. He has since starred in two standalone installments, as well as Infinity War and Endgame. Based on Disney and Sony’s recent negotiation, he will appear in a third Spider-Man solo film and make an additional MCU appearance. In other words, we can bet on Tom Holland shooting webs for quite some time. However, when all is said and done, the actor has got his eyes set on two other famous characters.
During an interview with Zendaya for Interview Magazine, Tom Holland discussed where he would like to see his career go. From stretching himself as an actor — like Meryl Streep and Leonardo DiCaprio — to taking a swing at directing, Holland has got the next 20 years or so planned out. He even revealed the two characters he would love the opportunity to portray.
Tom Holland talks roles following Spider-Man
Zendaya interviewed her Homecoming and Far From Home co-star a while back, and she asked, “I feel like I know the answer to this, but what role in an iconic movie do you wish that you could have played?” Holland, though acknowledging his expectations may be a little high, stated:
James Bond. Or maybe I’ll do Batman.Interview Magazine
Zendaya goes on to note that it would be pretty “unfair” for the man currently playing Peter Parker to also snag James Bond and Batman; Tom Holland then jokes, agreeing that it would be unfair, he notes, “life isn’t fair.”
When it comes down to James Bond, some of the best actors in the business have carried that name. From Pierce Brosnan to Daniel Craig and, of course, the one and only Sean Connery, playing James Bond is no easy feat. Not to mention, Holland will have to grow a little more distinguished before he would be believable as the character. Maybe, twenty or so years from now, Holland will be the new man to utter, “The name’s Bond. James Bond.”
As for Batman, the movie is currently being rebooted with Robert Pattinson in the lead role, so another reboot with another actor may be quite far off. Unless that is, the movie flops, and Warner Bros. looks to recast once more, as was the case with Ben Affleck’s turn as the Caped Crusader.
Tom Holland talks about the future
Tom Holland has some pretty big plans for the future. He told Zendaya:
The 20-year goal is to be a film director. The 15-year goal is to win an Oscar. The five-year goal is to just keep enjoying myself. I really am having the time of my life. But as far as my future goes, I want to stretch myself as an actor in a way that Jake Gyllenhaal, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Meryl Streep do.Interview Magazine
Tom Holland will begin stretching his acting muscles with a few movies on the horizon, including Cherry, Uncharted, Chaos Walking, and The Devil All the Time. With some war, addiction, PTSD, and robbery-related narratives in his future, Holland is prepping to abandon that good-boy shtick before he falls victim to typecasting.
