Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to Fill Captain America’s Shoes in 2022’s ‘Young Avengers?’

While Spider-Man: Far From Home may still be on the horizon, fans have already begun theorizing what’s next for the actor behind the web-slinging and quick-tongued Peter Parker.

Tom Holland first put on his Spidey suit in 2016’s Captain America: Civil War, and since then, has been hailed as one of the best, and most age-appropriate Spider-Men to ever grace the silver screen.

When he agreed to play Peter Parker, Tom Holland signed on for a six-film contract with Marvel. As of now, including Spider-Man: Far From Home, he has appeared in five Marvel films as the Hollywood aficionado and agile hero. Thus, unless he extends his contract, he is only tied to one more outing as Spider-Man.

Why Tom Holland probably won’t extend his contract following ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home

Given that Tom Holland plans to take on very diverse roles following his run as Peter Parker, and is afraid to get typecasted and “stuck to one character,” he probably won’t extend his contract. During an interview, he told Zendaya,

“I really am having the time of my life. But as far as my future goes, I want to stretch myself as an actor in a way that Jake Gyllenhaal, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Meryl Streep do. I don’t want to be stuck to one character. I think that’s what can happen when you take on a superhero movie.”

Taking the above information into account and adding the recent update concerning Marvel’s casting call for a “nefarious Benefactor,” it’s getting easier to put pieces together concerning the MCU’s future.

As many digital publications have noted, this benefactor is likely none other than Norman Osmond ( The Green Goblin), who will likely be the major villain in MCU’s phase 4. This has serious implications for Tom Holland and his next turn as Spider-Man.

Why Tom Holland will lead the ‘Young Avengers’ in 2022 following ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’

Since Tom Holland is unlikely to extend his contract, it would be wise for the head honchos at Marvel to save him for another major mash-up, and according to We Got This Covered, the next one will most likely be The Young Avengers.

The Young Avengers (which may also be titled The New Avengers) features Iron Lad, Vision 2.0, Stature, and more. While Peter Parker doesn’t normally appear in the comic book series, when has the MCU ever lined up with the comic book narratives?

If the Green Goblin is going to be the next great villain – one with henchman capable of taking down the good guys – Peter Parker is going to need help defeating him.

Since Parker will be a “senior avenger” by this point – and one still under contract – he may become the new Captain America, leading the adolescent heroes to save the day. Not to mention, if the entire cast is “young,” an older avenger as the leader doesn’t fit with the whole shtick.

Holland’s Peter Parker will be just old enough to lead a team, but young enough to fit with the film’s youthful energy, and the characters’ more adolescent mindsets. He will first have to grow in Spider-Man: Far From Home, and become the hero Stark always knew he could be though.

Far From Home is destined to follow Parker as he copes with Stark’s death, realizes his life’s destiny, and becomes a young adult, capable of making the wise decisions over the impulsive ones.
