Trixie Mattel, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, Alyssa Edwards, and Others Return For A Celebrity-Filled Season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’

Start your engines, Drag Race fans. Hot off the heels of RuPaul’s first United Kingdom-based season of the reality show, the drag performer announced another special season of RuPaul’s Drag Race. This one will feature celebrities, all competing for the title of “America’s Next Celebrity Drag Superstar.” Who will appear on this season of the series? When does Celebrity RuPaul’s Drag Race premiere? Here’s what we know about the show so far.

RuPaul created another special season of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race,’ entitled ‘Celebrity RuPaul’s Drag Race’

Drag Race is more than just a reality show — it’s an empire. There’s the Emmy-nominated spin-off show, Untucked. There are seasons of the series exclusively featuring the best former contestants, called RuPaul’s Drag Race: All-Stars. There’s even been the “Holi-slay” winter-themed episode, filled with holiday cheer and gags. This upcoming season of the reality series, entitled Celebrity RuPaul’s Drag Race, will be a four-episode season featuring public figures and a few familiar faces from the Drag Race family.

“Doing drag does not change who you are, it reveals who you are,” RuPaul said in a press release. “I can’t wait for the world to see what happens when our celebrity contestants get all up in drags!”

Former contestants of ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ will be on ‘Celebrity RuPaul’s Drag Race’

Although this is a season featuring celebrities, that doesn’t mean some fan-favorite contestants will not appear. According to Vanity Fair, the former contestants returning for this season include Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.

“This was the most fun I’ve ever had on [RuPaul’s Drag Race,]” Trixie Mattel tweeted, following the announcement. Presumably, these former contestants will be helping transform these celebrities into drag versions of themselves. Throughout this series, they will compete for the title of “America’s Next Celebrity Drag Superstar.”

While RuPaul has not announced which celebrities will appear on the series, celebrities who made appearances on other seasons include Ariana Grande, Lizzo, Lady Gaga, Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and Miley Cyrus. Even Nancy Pelosi appeared to give the queens encouragement.
