Truth Hurts: Why Fans Say ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ Will Be Better Than the First Two

The Fantastic Beasts franchise — following in the footsteps of J.K. Rowling’s iconic and history-making Harry Potter series — is a Potter fan’s “good enough”.  Though our hearts will always yearn to hear Hermione Granger correct Ron Weasley’s Wingardium Leviosa, watching Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander shovel fantastic creatures into a suitcase will have to suffice for now. And as the threats continue to heighten, Fantastic Beasts 3 is sure to reveal Newt as a hero coming into his grave destiny.

Fantastic Beasts boasts one impressive ensemble, including Redmayne, Johnny Depp (despite the controversy surrounding the A-lister, he is set to appear in the third film), Jude Law, Ezra Miller, and more. Casting has never been this movie’s flaw, as all the actors involved have risen to the challenge. Rather, if you visit Rotten Tomatoes, you will realize that the first two films suffer from narrative weakness.

While the magical world once again mystified fans in the first Fantastic Beasts film, many critics derided the first installment for its “tedious ho-hum narrative,” as IonCinema argued. And, as for the second film in the Fantastic Beasts series, the movie currently boasts a 37% critics’ score and a 55% audience score, attaining rotten status; in short, critics argue that The Crimes of Grindelwald boasts Harry Potter’s familiar energy but lacks its spellbinding story and heart.

J.K. Rowling will have help writing the third ‘Fantastic Beasts’ film

Considering the first two movies suffered narratively, you can only really point to one culprit: J.K. Rowling. Though J.K. Rowling is an ingenious author, both of her Fantastic Beasts screenplays failed to garner positive critical and audience reception. Thus, fans have begun to celebrate the news surrounding the third film: she won’t be going at it on her own.

Though a bit mean and a little hurtful, fans have taken to Reddit to express their joy at discovering that J.K. Rowling will have help writing the third screenplay. This help will come in the form of Steve Kloves, who just so happened to write seven of the eight Harry Potter films! Maybe, we will get the best Fantastic Beasts film yet.

Fans react to J.K. Rowling and Steve Kloves teaming up for ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’: Rowling needs the help

While Harry Potter fans bow down to J.K. Rowling, most admit that the Fantastic Beasts films have left much to be desired. Fans took to Reddit to discuss the news surrounding Steve Kloves, stating:

I think the best thing the article mentioned was that Rowling is co writing the screenplay. I think that’s a really good idea and it tells me personally that they’re trying to do better with this third movie if they are asking for help and more insight.

While some fans agree with the above proclamation, others note that a fresh pair of eyes, over someone so familiar with Harry Potter, may have been better. One fan stated:

I don’t know why people are so happy about Kloves coming back. I would have preferred a fresh pair of eyes. Also I like Yates but I would have also preferred another director. Again this seems to be an unpopular opinion so if it works and we get a good film then so be it. :)

In the end, fans just want the film to better than the first two, especially the second one, and if Kloves is the main to help Rowling hit the home run, we will all jump on for the ride once again! The Rowling loyalty is real.
