It’s no secret that first lady Melania Trump is a somewhat controversial figure. Though she is nowhere near as despised as her husband, President Donald Trump, the first lady is still a rather polarizing figure in popular culture.
Some people are disgusted by her complacent role at her husband’s side, especially since she refuses to speak out against his racist, transphobic, and sexist ideas. However, others feel sorry for the woman they feel got trapped in a loveless marriage, and in a role she never asked for.
Still, quite a few hosts have made it no secret how much they loathe Mrs. Trump. However, we bet No. 7 also appreciates the first lady since she gives him plenty to joke about.
1. Anderson Cooper
A normally unflappable reporter who goes for the truth, Anderson Cooper has had a rough time keeping his composure since the Trumps entered the political arena. In fact, Cooper has been pretty much disgusted by it all. Just before the election in October 2016, Mrs. Trump who had been avoiding the political trails at all cost sat down with Cooper to chat about her husband’s campaign, sexual assault allegations, and everything in between.
Cooper could barely contain his disdain and disbelief when Mrs. Trump said, “I accept his apology. I hope the American people will accept it as well. And it was many, many years ago. He’s not the man that I know. Sometimes I say I have two boys at home — I have my young son, and I have my husband.”
The silver-haired news host was only further horrified when Trump told him her message as the first lady would be an anti-bullying campaign.

2. Chelsea Handler
TV host Chelsea Handler has never been one to bite her tongue, and she’s been so affected by the Trump campaign and his subsequent presidency that she’s stepping away from her Netflix series Chelsea for politics. Handler has been explicit about her hatred for both of the Trumps.
At the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, she told Variety that she would never interview the first lady. She said, “Melania? What’s to talk about what, she can barely even speak English.”

3. Kathy Griffin
Kathy Griffin might have been reprimanded and lost quite a few deals and her job with CNN for posing in a photo with what appeared to be an image of Trump’s severed head, but she hasn’t backed down. When the White House, including the first lady, released statements questioning the comedian and former host of The View‘s sanity, she clapped back.
Griffin said, “I think there’s a lot of people in this administration that seem, like, super nuts, and I think it’s weird that you guys or anybody’s acting like they’re not.”

4. Mika Brzezinski
It’s no secret that President Trump has been at war with Morning Joe host Mika Brzezinski, and it all seems to stem from a comment she made about the first lady. In summer 2017, the news host said, “I’m just telling you, Melania’s got the worst job in the country and I don’t think she wants do it a lot longer. I think she will do it for as long as she has to for her son, and that’s it.”
Though Brzezinski certainly didn’t say anything horrible about the president’s wife outwardly, things got heated immediately. The first lady responded through her press secretary criticizing the statement, and of course, the president unleashed a frenzy of tweets against Morning Joe and its hosts.

5. Joy Behar
The View co-host Joy Behar doesn’t have time for any of the Trumps’ foolishness. Though her ire is mostly directed at the president, she did save some frustration for the first lady, especially when it came to wasting taxpayers’ money.
During an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Behar said, “I feel sorry for her. She had to sleep with him once. At least once she did. And then when she was in New York, and we had to pay a million dollars a day to keep her here because she doesn’t want to sleep with him [at the White House], we have to pay for that. I didn’t like that.”

6. Joy-Ann Reid
Sometimes, TV news hosts don’t even have to say much to get their points across. In September 2017, the first lady gave a speech on bullying. She said, “By our own example we must teach children to be good stewards of the world they will inherit, We must remember that they are watching and listening … As adults, we are not merely responsible. We are accountable.”
It was more than a little absurd because President Trump is the biggest bully in the world. MSNBC News host Joy-Ann Reid coyly responded to the speech by tweeting, “Irony is dead.”

7. Stephen Colbert
Though he’s way too classy to admit it, Stephen Colbert is no fan of Melania Trump. In fact, he brilliantly uses regular impersonator Laura Benan on The Late Show to imitate the first lady and comment on how absurd the ongoings in the White House are.
When asked about Michael Wolff’s explosive book, Fire and Fury, Fake Melania said, “It is fake book, pure fiction, every single word is lie.”
