5 TV Show Finales to Watch in October
October will bring several notable TV finales to the small-screen, in addition to a slew of new show premieres. Over the next few weeks, both new and returning series — from AMC‘s drama Halt and Catch Fire to HBO‘s freshman comedy High Maintenance — will wrap up, either for the season or for good. Here are five TV show finales to tune into over the next month.
1. Forces of Nature, October 5
PBS’s four-part documentary series uncovers how some of our planet’s most beautiful sights and events were created by the underlying forces of nature. Physicist Brian Cox hosts the show, which is co-produced by BBC Studios and also airs on the U.K.’s BBC One. The final hour-long episode, airing this month and entitled “The Pale Blue Dot,” follows Cox as he travels to Iceland, where he visits a volcano and explores the colors that make up our planet.
2. Halt and Catch Fire, October 11
AMC’s period drama, which charts the frustrating fits and starts of the 1980s computing boom, wraps up its third season this month. Season 3 moved the setting from Texas to Silicon Valley and introduced a slew of new characters. The finale episode will air on Tuesday night at 10 p.m. EST. AMC has yet to announce whether the series will return for a fourth season.
3. Fear the Walking Dead, October 16
AMC’s The Walking Dead prequel, which follows a dysfunctional family as they are faced with the impending collapse of civilization, wraps up its 16-episode sophomore season this month. The show, which airs on Sundays at 9 p.m. EST, has already been green-lit for a 16-episode third season. Season 3 is expected to return to the airwaves sometime in 2017.
4. High Maintenance, October 21
Vimeo’s popular pot-themed series made the jump to the small-screen this September. Created and written by husband and wife team Katja Blichfeld (30 Rock) and Ben Sinclair (Sisters), High Maintenance centers on “The Guy,” a nameless pot dealer who delivers his product to an eccentric group of characters in New York City. As the friendly Brooklyn dealer travels in and out of his clients’ apartments, the varied dynamics of their lives are revealed — from the strange and offbeat to the predictable and mundane. Each episode focuses on a new set of customers (usually young professionals) as they procure their stash. The six-episode freshman season, which airs Friday nights at 11 p.m. EST, wraps up this month.
5. The Strain, October 30
The 10-episode third season of FX’s horror drama, based on the novel trilogy of the same name, will conclude this month. The show, which airs on Sunday nights at 10 p.m. EST, chronicles a viral outbreak with a mysterious strain of vampirism that ravages the city of New York. The network has not yet revealed whether the series will return for a fourth season.
