Why ‘Harry Potter’ fans will love ‘Marvel’s Runaways’

The main characters of Marvel’s Runaways, while they’re more superheroes than fantasy protagonists, also much like Harry and his friend Hermione in Harry Potter, have to deal with getting to know powers that are new to them. The protagonists of this show also have to deal with the fact that their parents are evil and fight against them, much like Harry and his friends fight the corrupt authority of Dolores Umbridge in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. It also might remind Harry Potter fans of the time when Harry thought Sirius betrayed his parents and therefore viewed his own godfather as an enemy.

This show is also like Harry Potter because it includes a fight of good against evil. That may be because such a fight is a staple of the superhero story and the fantasy genre as well, but it’s still nice to note the similarities between the two stories. Runaways also features teenage friendships and relationships, as do the later Harry Potter stories.

Why ‘Wizards of Waverly Place’ is a tv show like ‘Harry Potter’

While this show is made for a younger audience, so is Harry Potter. And if you like watching wizards get stuck in magical problems, this is the show for you. Wizards of Waverly Place follows the Russo siblings Alex (Gomez), Max (Jake T. Austin), and Justin (David Henrie) as they are trained by their father in all things magical. There’s even a wizarding school involved at one point and the secret room that they’re trained in will likely remind Harry Potter fans of the room of a Hogwarts professor.

This Disney channel classic will indulge your inner child in the same way that Harry Potter does. So if you’re feeling nostalgic or just want to feel like a kid again, this show is your best bet. That being said, the show is closer in tone to the first few Harry Potter books since it’s a rather light show. It is made for children, after all.

Why ‘A Series of Unfortunate Events’ is like ‘Harry Potter’

And finally, to finish off this list of TV shows like Harry Potter, we have A Series of Unfortunate Events. While there is no magic involved, the Baudelaires of A Series of Unfortunate Events have a lot in common with Harry. First of all, the Baudelaires and Harry both lose their parents at a young age. While Harry’s parents are murdered by Voldemort, the Baudelaires lose their parents in a fire.

The cause is more mundane but the effects are the same. Second, the Baudelaires and Harry both consistently have to deal with a villain disrupting their lives. For Harry, it’s Voldemort, but for the Baudelaires it’s Count Olaf. Both stories are also very adventurous and somewhat long — and are both based on books— so if you’re looking for something to really get sucked into, you’re in luck with this Netflix original.

If Harry Potter fans are looking for a new TV show to get into, right here is a good place to start. Marvel’s Runaways, Wizards of Waverly Place, and A Series of Unfortunate Events will all satisfy your cravings for exciting and sometimes even magical adventures. So get ready to have your desire for adventure and magic satisfied.
