‘Dance Moms’: Abby Lee Miller Thanks ‘Hot Firemen’ for Helping Her After Falling from Wheelchair at the Airport
Abby Lee Miller is thanking the fireman and the staff at Pittsburgh International Airport for helping her after she fell from her wheelchair while traveling. The Dance Moms star shared the story on Instagram on July 7. While she had nothing but praise for those who stopped to assist her, she also had some harsh words for an American Airlines employee who she said wasn’t at all helpful during the incident.
Miller fell while transferring from an aisle chair to her wheelchair
Miller was diagnosed with Burkitt lymphoma in April 2018. She is now cancer-free, but her illness left her unable to walk. Miller has said she hopes to be on her feet again in the next few months after she has a knee replacement surgery. Until that happens, she must use a wheelchair to get around. When she flies, she has to transfer to and from her regular wheelchair to the airplane using a narrow aisle chair.
Unfortunately, things didn’t go smoothly with the transfer on her last trip, as the 52-year-old dance teacher explained in her post.
“‘Help! “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up’ isn’t that the truth? Let’s just say my transfer from the Isle Chair to my own chair didn’t go so well!” she wrote in a caption accompanying a photo of herself on the floor next to her wheelchair.
“The move should’ve happened on the bridge like usual and not in front of a hundred ppl waiting to board, I shouldn’t have had to ask for someone to call the paramedics and maybe the @americanair Gate Mgr should’ve at the very least asked if I was ok?” she went on to say.
She thanked the firemen for their help
While Miller said that American Airlines’s gate agent wasn’t helpful, she did have kind words for the firemen and airport escorts who helped her get back in her wheelchair.
“Thank you to all the Pgh international Airport Escorts that were so very kind & the hot firemen who swiftly got me on my feet, into my chair & on my way!!!” the founder of the Abby Lee Dance Company wrote.
In a follow-up comment, Miller said that she was still suffering from the fall. “I’m stiff and my body aches. My right hip & knee banged up. Right shoulder is sore,” she reported.
The ‘Dance Moms’ star says she often relies on strangers for help
Since her cancer diagnosis, Miller has had to get used to asking other people for help, something she wasn’t always comfortable doing in the past.
“I rely on other people every day of my life. Other people to get me ready, to grab something,” she told E!’s Daily Pop. “These are perfect strangers but yet I rely on them, all the time,” she went on to say. “It renews your faith in humankind and that people are genuinely nice and helpful.”
