March TV: New and Returning Shows to Catch This Month
The month of March has a lot going for it. Some years, it’s when we start to see flowers popping up as a sign that spring is here. This year, most of us will have to settle for TV shows as a sign that the wheel of time is still spinning, with series arising from their winter slumber or heading out for a test run. Now’s the time to get hyped up about a promising new series or excited at the prospect of new episodes from a well-loved show.
First, let’s take a look at what familiar faces will be returning in March. Bates Motel, the disturbing series based on events leading up to Hitchcock’s Psycho, returned for its second season on March 3. Once Upon a Time in Wonderland and Suits both returned March 6, and the Fuse comedy Billy on the Street will be back March 12 for its third season.
Da Vinci’s Demons, the not-at-all close-to-real-life story of a young Leonardo da Vinci, will return March 22 for its second season, and good ol’ Bones will be back for its mid-season premiere March 10. Finally, Call the Midwife’s third season will be back March 30, with all the period drama baby doctoring you could hope for, as will Mr. Selfridge. In animated news, Family Guy, The Simpsons, and Bob’s Burgers will return for their mid-season premieres on March 9, and American Dad will see its own mid-season premiere on March 16.
Now on to the series premieres, fresh-faced and up for viewership hazing. Who isn’t excited to see how these rookies fare in ratings? There’s quite a list of new content coming to a TV near you in March, starting with Those Who Kill, which premiered on March 3 but will be back again Monday. It follows Catherine, a police detective in Pittsburgh who over-identifies with victims, as she teams up with Thomas, a forensic psychologist who sometimes over-identifies with the killer.
Win, Lose or Draw also premiered March 3; it’s a Disney channel game show that pairs kids with Disney Channel stars to compete for prizes. March 6 saw the first episodes of Saint George and Sirens, the first welcoming back George Lopez and the second a comedy about EMTs. March 9 will host the premieres of three new shows: Cosmos, Resurrection, and Lindsay.
March 10 will bring two much-talked about series. From Dusk Till Dawn builds off the Tarantino film, following the two Gecko brothers as they are chased by the law for their crimes. Believe is a science fiction-fantasy series that looks at a young girl and her extraordinary powers, and the man — an ex-prisoner — who ends up protecting her. Chrisley Knows Best is a new reality show coming March 11. Crisis will take viewers through the Secret Service and government corruption on March 16, and March 19 will have viewers enjoying The Hundred, a science fiction series about teens repopulating the earth after a nuclear war.
Finally, near the end of the month, Jim Henson’s Creature Shop Challenge will premiere March 25, and Surviving Jack will follow soon after, on March 27. The sitcom Friends with Better Lives will premiere March 31. All in all, there’s plenty to choose from if time allows for a new series this season, but pick wisely, lest your choice be canceled and your heart left broken.
