MTV Movie Awards: See Who’s Up for Best ‘#WTF Moment’ and More
The Oscars are over, those little gold men have wandered off home, and the internet is abuzz with sad Leo memes — this is the fifth nomination without a win — which means it’s time to look forward to our next award ceremony. This one is bound to be a little less serious, but no less enjoyable, as the 2014 MTV Movie Awards approach with the spring, airing April 13.
The awards include your average “Best Comedic Performance,” for which Jason Sudeikis (We’re the Millers), Johnny Knoxville (Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa), Jonah Hill (The Wolf of Wall Street), Kevin Hart (Ride Along), and Melissa McCarthy (The Heat) were nominated. It has “Best Female Performance” and “Best Male Performance,” and the classic “Movie of the Year.” However, on top of those, it has “Best Scared-As-S**t Performance,” “Best Shirtless Performance,” and “#WTF Moment.”
Nominated for best “#WTF Moment” is Cameron Diaz (The Counselor) for that scene were she has sex with the Ferrari; Channing Tatum and Danny McBride (This is the End) for that scene where McBride has Tatum leashed up and taught him tricks like a well-muscled dog; Johnny Knoxville and Jackson Nicoll (Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa) for a rather uncomfortable sexy dance at a child’s beauty pageant; Leonard DiCaprio (The Wolf of Wall Street) for that scene where he rolls himself down the stairs and then drags his body like a floppy fish; and finally, Steve Carell, Will Ferrell, Paul Rudd, and David Koechner (Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues) for the rolling bus scene where they get bombarded with bowling balls, hot oil, and a scorpion. The list of odd awards goes on with “Best Kiss,” “Best Fight,” and both “Best Hero” and “Best Villain.”
Conan O’Brien will be hosting the awards, though he’ll have a lot to live up to after Ellen’s selfies and pizza orders. “The Oscar, the Golden Globe, the BAFTA, the Screen Actor Guild Award, the Peabody Award, and of course, the Nobel Peace Prize, ladies and gentlemen, people work their entire lives in an attempt to earn just one of these incredible awards. But if you ask me, they’re all GARBAGE!” shouted O’Brien on his show earlier this week, sweeping them off his desk. “There’s only one award in the world that truly matters; I’m talking of course about the MTV Movie Award!” he said, going on to announce his role as the host. “I’m humbled, I’m honored, and as of late this morning, I’m contractually obligated,” joked Conan.
Last year’s MTV Awards were nothing if not exciting, and with any luck, similar antics will be had. Rebel Wilson hosted last time, at one point dancing to a Eminem parody from Pitch Perfect co-star Skylar Astin. Plus, last year saw Aubrey Plaza in a Kanye/Swift moment as she ran up on stage and attempted to take Will Ferrel’s award from him, before eventually returning to her seat and spilling her drink in the process. We can only hope for similar shenanigans.
