‘RHOC’: Vicki Gunvalson Shares One Reason Why She Thinks Emily and Shane Are Having Issues

Vicki Gunvalson from The Real Housewives of Orange County provided some deep insight into why Emily and Shane Simpson were having marital problems on the show.

Gunvalson appeared on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen and an After Show caller wanted to get her take on the Simpson’s marriage. The caller reminds the audience that Gunvalson has quite a bit of relationship experience. She tried to make her marriage to Donn Gunvalson work while on the show, but the couple ultimately divorced.

She shared her thoughts on why the Simpsons are struggling. Plus, Tamra Judge, who was in the audience, offered why she thinks reality television was the springboard for her divorce.

Having the cameras around can make problems much worse

Gunvalson was asked not only what she thought of Simpson’s marriage but what advice would she offer. “Personally I really feel bad,” Gunvalson says. “Because they were fine before they started filming. At least she told me they were.”

She continued, “And now they’re having issues. I just kind of feel like the pressure of having marriage problems with cameras on. Everything gets exaggerated And I feel that I could have done things way differently when I was married to Donn.”

Gunvalson and her ex-husband seemed to share a snarky relationship toward the end. They even renewed their vows during one season. However, nothing worked and the couple finally divorced. “I feel like you need to go back to your roots, to your family. And keep that sacred,” Gunvalson concluded.

Judge thinks being on reality television may have helped her out of her marriage

Host Andy Cohen turns to Judge, who was sitting in the audience. “Well we will have this conversation at the reunion, but I wanna bring Tamra in because the interesting thing, I think that happened with you is it exacerbated your problems. And I think, I won’t speak for you, I believe you told me that you saw things that you weren’t seeing before. And it gave you the power to get out of it. Am I wrong about that?”

“Yes. That and the money you were paying me,” she deadpans. “If you are in a marriage on shaky foundation and you go into a reality show, it’s going to crumble.”

But Judge adds, “But clearly this is not because of the Housewives like Vicki is saying. I mean, we’ve seen his interviews.” Cohen digs deeper asking if she thinks what happens is the women become more independent while being on the show. “They get more independent, they get stronger. And they get more financially stable,” Judge says.

Simpson seems to be at her breaking point

During what ended up being an emotional episode for Simpson, she confronts her husband about his passive-aggressive behavior. “I feel very upset and resentful towards you,” she said to her husband. “And I know you feel upset and resentful towards me.”

The couple continued with their mental tennis match asking questions but giving non-answers. Simpson said to her husband, “We’re not good at communicating,” Then, “We didn’t talk at all while you were taking the bar exam and then you came home and then we really didn’t talk at all.”

He reminded her she texted him “nasty things” and although she apologized the episode ended with the couple unable to find a resolution.
