Judging by her increasingly slimmer figure, the winner of the first season of American Idol has been losing weight. Of course, everyone has their reasons for losing weight, whether it’s to look better in their jeans, at the beach, or to just feel better about themselves. Clarkson is all about body positivity
Kelly Clarkson doesn’t want to lose weight just to look good. She wants to inspire others to feel positively about their bodies and themselves. She spoke with Redbook in 2017 at a time when she wasn’t yet ready to lose weight.
“…No one actually cares about your health. They just care about aesthetics. It’s when I’m fat that I’m happy. People think, Oh, there’s something wrong with her. She’s putting on weight. I’m like, ‘Oh, no! I’m sorry, but that represents happiness in my emotional world.'”
“For me, when I’m skinny is usually when I’m not doing well. If you gauge your life on what other people think, you’re going to be in a constant state of panic trying to please everyone. People should just concentrate on their own lives and their own health and their own happiness, and whatever that looks like for you, be happy with it.”
Clarkson is confident in her own skin
Whether she’s losing weight or not, on the heavier side or looking lighter, Clarkson’s message of being happy in your own skin is timely and resonates with so many struggling with who they are and finding acceptance with others.
“I literally have this conversation with my husband and my assistant all the time. I’m like, should I be less confident?,” she shared with USA Today earlier this year. “Should I worry about this?” Clarkson says. “Here’s the reason: I think once we let our ego go, (we) just get over the fact that everybody’s not going to like us – and that’s OK. Because there will be people who do dig it. And even if they don’t, do you? You get one life. Who the hell cares what everyone else thinks?”
Why Clarkson’s serious about losing the weight this time
Despite rumors flying around that Clarkson was on some strange pill regimen, the singer hasn’t been doing anything of the kind.
She’s following the protocol outlined in The Plant Paradox by Steven Gundry, M.D. Her reason for losing weight is to get off medications she’s had to be on for her thyroid and for an autoimmune disorder.
“It’s basically about how we cook our food, non-GMO, no pesticides, eating really organic,” she shared with Extra. “I did it for this autoimmune disease that I had and I had a thyroid issue, and now all my levels are back up. I’m not on medicine anymore because of this book.”
For Clarkson, it wasn’t really about the weight; it was about getting to a place where she was no longer dependent on medication for her health. But in the journey, she shows it’s about attitude more than pounds. You go, Kelly!
