Get ready to move that bus. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition is coming back to TV, and it turns out that original host Ty Pennington will be part of the show after all. HGTV made the announcement on August 21, along with revealing some other special guests who will appear on the rebooted version of the popular home makeover show.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson will host the new ‘Extreme Makeover: Home Edition’

HGTV announced earlier in 2019 that it planned to reboot Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, which originally aired on ABC from 2003 to 2012. Carpenter Ty Pennington hosted the show in its initial run and his passion for transforming the homes of deserving families became a signature part of the show. But the network decided to go in a different direction for the reboot, revealing in June that Modern Family’s Jesse Tyler Ferguson would host the new series. Ten new episodes will air in 2020.

Ferguson has embraced his new role as host.

“Being a part of the Extreme Makeover family has already proven to be one of the most profound experiences of my life,” the actor said in a statement. “This is more than a great job. It’s a reminder that there is a lot of good in this world and that the power of generosity and compassion is unstoppable when we come together.”

Ferguson’s casting was a way to make a well-known show feel fresh. However, fans of the original Extreme Makeover: Home Edition were sure to miss Pennington’s infectious enthusiasm. So they’ll be happy to hear that he will be part of the reboot.

Pennington will make a guest appearance on the show, lending his experience as a carpenter and renovator to the crew who are building new homes for families who are giving back to their communities, like a local fire captain and widowed father of three in California.

“I’m honored to roll up my sleeves and relive the magic of the most positive, life-changing show I’ve ever been a part of,” Pennington said in a statement. “I’m passionate about design and making positive change in people’s lives. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition shows you what amazing things can happen when people work together. Let’s do it!”

Pennington also appears in TLC’s Trading Spaces, a reboot of the home design show that originally aired from 2000 to 2008.

Tarek El Moussa will also make a guest appearance

Pennington isn’t the only familiar face who will pop up on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. Flip or Flop’s Tarek El Moussa will make a guest appearance. So will Jasmine Roth from Hidden Potential and Tamara Day from Bargain Mansions.

“Everyone is so inspired by the families’ stories that they tell us they can’t stay away,” said Jane Latman, president, HGTV. “They’re touched by the spirit behind the massive volunteer effort and want to bring their own expertise to each makeover. They understand the impact that an HGTV home renovation can have on lives and are ready to put their skills to work.”
