These Offensive Meghan Markle Messages Made a U.K. Party Leader Leave His Girlfriend
Sadly, Meghan Markle has been the target of many racist comments since her relationship with Prince Harry has become public. The latest incident of this is with Jo Marney, a woman who was dating Henry Bolton, the leader of the U.K. Independence Party (Ukip).
It has come to light that she sent Facebook messages calling Markle a “dumb little commoner.” She also called black people “ugly” and said Markle would “taint” the royal family by making it possible for there to be a “black king.” When the person she was messaging responded that what she was saying was racist, Marney responded with “So what?”
Many have called for change with the party because of this. Bolton has also given a response to these offensive comments. Here are seven things to know about the fallout from the scandal.
1. Henry Bolton says he broke up with girlfriend after messages
The party leader announced that he has broken up with girlfriend Jo Marney after her offensive messages about Meghan Markle were released.
“The romantic element of the relationship is over, I’m afraid, as of last night,” Henry Bolton said on BBC Radio 4’s Today. He called her comments “indefensible.” He also went on Good Morning Britain to give a statement.
I don’t defend these comments whatsoever and indeed Jo has been suspended pending an investigation under the normal rules of the party for such things and it is against the constitution for the party to be racist in any way. As of last night the romantic side of our relationship is ended.

According to the Telegraph, a Ukip spokesperson confirmed these warnings are real and “Mr. Bolton was trying to defend Ms. Marney from harassment.”
