‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ Returns to Netflix With an Interactive Episode — Here’s What Fans Think
You can’t keep a girl like Kimmy Schmidt down! Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt is getting a new, interactive episode set to debut in 2020 and fans are already comparing it to Black Mirror’s Bandersnatch. Here’s what fans are saying about the reprise episode and the return of Titus, Mikey, Lillian, and Kimmy.
Tina Fey said the ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ interactive episode will be ‘a great way’ to complete the series
We last left off at an amusement park. Kimmy became an author after her manuscript for The Legends of Greemulax proved to be a huge success. Titus got his starring role in The Lion King on Broadway and reunited with his boyfriend, Mikey. Lillian wreaked havoc on a live New York news channel. Jacqueline White finally met someone who treats her right.
After a bittersweet ending, fans are left wondering what happens next to these beloved characters.
“Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was one of the first original comedy series on Netflix, and now it will be its first interactive comedy event,” Executive Producer Tina Fey said during a “Netflix For Your Consideration” Emmy panel. “Fans will be able to make choices on behalf of our characters, taking different story paths with, of course, different jokes. I think it’s a great fit for our show and will be a great way to officially complete the series.”
Most of the cast is returning for this interactive episode
Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’s four main characters are all on the list of returning cast members for the last episode of the series.
Actress Ellie Kemper will play the plucky, upbeat, redheaded protagonist, Kimmy
Kimmy’s best friend and roommate, Titus Andromedon will also return for this interactive episode, played by Broadway alumni and actor Tituss Burges. Actress Carol Kane will portray Kimmy’s landlord, Lillian
It is unclear whether or not actor Mike Carlsen will reprise his role as Titus’ boyfriend, Mikey Politano.
Fans have mixed feelings
Within a few hours of the announcement, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt was trending on Twitter. Some compared this new episode to Black Mirror‘s 2018 interactive movie, entitled Bandersnatch.
“If this doesn’t end with an option of becoming best friends with Titus then my god what is the point,” said one Twitter User.
“INTERESTING!” said another Twitter User. “Considering the ending, I don’t know what they’re gonna do but more Kimmy Schmidt is returning for one last hurrah.”
According to Tina Fey’s statement, this interactive episode will be the last addition to Kimmy Schmidt’s story. Until the new release in 2020, the four previously released seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are available for streaming on Netflix.
