We’ve been waiting so long that our Rachel’s starting to Phoebe. Finally, the little girl in the big city is back for one more episode of this Netflix original series. When does the new episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premiere on Netflix? Here’s what we know about the interactive special, Kimmy Vs. the Reverend, coming to the streaming platform.
Kimmy and the Reverend return for a new episode of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’
This finale left some fans asking one question: what the foop is this soup? Thankfully, though, the series is back with one more episode exclusive to this streaming platform. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt: Kimmy Vs. The Reverend premieres on May 12, over a year since the last episode of season 4 debuted.
This episode features returning last members like Ellie Kemper and Tituss Burgess, each of them embarking on a new adventure in New York City. For Kimmy Schmidt, that means facing Richard Wayne Gary Wayne, also known as “the Reverend,” one last time.
This upcoming episode of ‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ is interactive
This wouldn’t be the first time that Netflix created a choose-your-own-adventure-esque episode of their original series. In 2018, the streaming platform debuted Black Mirror: Bandersnatch, an episode that had audience members determine the fate of their main character.
Kimmy Vs. The Reverend will, presumably, follow a similar format. However, in this episode, Kimmy Schmidt will have to choose between saving her fellow “Mole Women” and getting married to Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt newcomer, Daniel Radcliffe.
‘Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt’ premiered its last episode during 2019
It’s been over a year since fans said goodbye to Kimmy, Titus, and the gang. This episode might’ve ended on a good note, but it isn’t the end of Kimmy Shmidt’s story. Two of the creators commented on their decision to end Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt with season 4.
“We believe in happy endings, particularly in this world that Kimmy is trying to hold onto, and we wanted everyone in different ways to get things that they wanted, some of them very small in Lillian’s (Carol Kane) case in terms of her attempted gesture in the finale,” creator Robert Carlock said during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter.
“Some of them very emotional and romantic — Jacqueline (Jane Krakowski) with Eli (Zachary Quinto), just the idea that she put so much stock in how men see her and her life was so dictated by men’s whims, and when she moves past that is when it falls in her lap and it’s the only man she could possibly believe loves her truly because he’s blind,” he continued. “That speaks to her psyche and what she needed, and we wanted to give it to her in a very comic way.”
Kimmy Vs. The Reverend is, presumably, the last episode of this Netflix original series. The interactive episode of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt premieres on May 12. Until then, the first four seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are available for streaming on Netflix.
