‘Unsolved Mysteries’ Reveals New Clue in the Alonzo Brooks Case
When Unsolved Mysteries premiered on Netflix in July, viewers were left perplexed by the circumstances surrounding Alzono Brooks’ death. The show repeatedly asked the public for leads. And it looks like they’ve unearthed one more clue about the night Brooks died.
‘Unsolved Mysteries’ brings attention back to Alonzo Brooks’ 16-year-old case
Unsolved Mysteries’ season 1 episode, “No Ride Home,” explores the 2004 death of Alonzo Brooks, a young Kansas man whose body was found near a creek with no determined cause of death. Through the testimony of Brooks’ family and friends, it is clear that the 23-year-old left his mom’s Gardner, Kansas home on the evening of April 3 to attend a party with his friends in nearby La Cygne.
During the party, Brooks was reportedly the target of some racial slurs and got into a tiff with other attendees. His friends left him at the party, assuming he would get a ride back with someone else. But Brooks never made it back home.
Alonzo Brooks body was found near the venue
The party in La Cygne took place in a rented farmhouse that sits on a large property with a creek. For weeks after his appearance, authorities searched the grounds for Brooks. But all that they found was the young man’s boots and hat strewn across the property.
However, weeks after he disappeared, Brooks’ family was allowed to conduct their own search. And within half an hour, they uncovered his body in the very same creek.
The family noted that Brooks’ did not appear to have been underwater for weeks, as authorities subsequently suggested. His wallet, cards, and other belongings looked dry, which led his family to believe the body was moved.
In the episode, forensic pathologist Dr. Erik Mitchell noted there were no broken bones or apparent injuries on Brooks’ body. The cause of death remains undetermined, and the case has since been left unsolved.
‘Unsolved Mysteries’ reveals a new clue in the case
Unsolved Mysteries provided a hotline for leads in Brooks’ case when it premiered in July 2020. And soon after, the FBI reopened the 16-year-old case, offered a $100,000 reward for information, and announced that they were planning to exhume the body. And now, it looks like the FBI may have found another lead.
On Twitter, the Unsolved Mysteries account page posted an update in the Brooks case. They revealed that there was another party that night in the vicinity of the crime scene and that it may hold a connection to Brooks’ death.
“UPDATE: The FBI learned of a second party in La Cygne, Kansas the night Alonzo Brooks disappeared,” the tweet read. “Attendees left the party after a fight broke out, then headed to the Farmhouse where Alonzo was last seen. If you attended either party or know someone who did, please come forward.”
Season 2 of Unsolved Mysteries did not revisit Brooks’ case. But with so much new information coming in, they may just need to make a follow-up episode for season 3.
