‘Vanderpump Rules’: Why Scheana Shay Decided to Freeze Her Eggs

A lot of women grow up thinking that one day they will get married and have children. For a lot of people, though, the journey to kids isn’t as straight and narrow as those childhood dreams would have led them to believe.

Because the prospect of having a healthy baby and an easy pregnancy diminish with age, many women are choosing to freeze their eggs.

Scheana Shay of Vanderpump Rules is one of those women.

Today’s the day! Bye bye eggs! For me personally, this has been a very easy, painless and awesome experience. Everyone is different I’m sure. I am single and no where near trying to have a baby. So for me- yes, this was an easy process and when i say painless, I’m referring to the needles which i have no problem with. My AMH levels were only at .28 and for my age that’s insanely low. That’s disappointing to find out. It was an awesome experience to see everything that goes into freezing eggs. My doctor highly recommended for me to do this to have a better chance at a healthy baby down the road. I have learned so much about fertility and everything that goes into freezing eggs and IVF. You never know what will happen in life. @scrcivf and @drshahinghadir have been so amazing throughout this entire journey! Thank you to all of my super supportive followers who have been thru this and given me advice. If you are in your late twenties/early 30s and able to afford it, I highly recommend this! We retrieved 12 eggs and only got 9 mature of those, so I am already planning a second round this summer bc the more the merrier and better chance of being viable once fertilized down the road! In no way am I trying to minimize those struggling with infertility by saying this is “easy”. I’m not trying to have a baby right now, so this was an easy decision for me to make and thankfully I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford it. My heart goes out to all of the women struggling with infertility. I could likely be in that boat one day which is why I’m being proactive now with such low AMH levels. I’ve also had numerous women reach out thanking me for sharing this bc if they knew sooner that this was an option, maybe they wouldn’t be struggling with infertility issues. This is MY post about MY journey. Thank you all for following me thru this experience … ♥️🥚 and to all of the negative and uneducated comments on this post, check out the next episode of @scheananigans where my DOCTOR answers all of the questions men and women need to know.

Why Did She Do It?

Shay has not had the easiest love life. She is still waiting on her Mr. Right, which is precisely why she chose to freeze her eggs.

“It would be very selfish of me to not do it now and then be, like, 40 and find the love of my life and be like, ‘I should have frozen my eggs when I was 33,’” she wrote on her Instagram of her decision to have the procedure done.

While Shay recommends that women in their late 20s to 30s consider having the procedure done, she understands that that might not be a possibility for everyone.

“In no way am I trying to minimize those struggling with infertility by saying this is ‘easy,’” she wrote in the same post. “I’m not trying to have a baby right now, so this was an easy decision for me to make and thankfully I’m fortunate enough to be able to afford it. My heart goes out to all of the women struggling with infertility.”

Shay’s Relationship History

Shay married her ex-husband Mike Shay in 2014. At first, the relationship seemed as though it was a match made in heaven. But apparently, there was a lot more going on behind the scenes.

“There were a lot of things from the beginning of our marriage that kind of tainted the whole relationship,” the Vanderpump Rules star told E! News. “Three months in I found out he had a pill problem. Right before our one-year anniversary, I saw some inappropriate text messages. Then, fast forward to our second anniversary, and I’m just trying to pretend like everything’s fine, because in my mind, we’re married—for better or for worse.”

Unfortunately, things only got worse. Later, Shay found out that her ex-husband was still taking pills and lying to her about it. After that, she knew that she could no longer remain married to him.

After her split from her ex-husband, Shay began dating other men, both on and off of Vanderpump Rules.

She briefly dated actress Amber Valletta’s brother, Robert Valletta. The two’s relationship was shown briefly on Vanderpump Rules. The relationship ended shortly after it started.

After ending things with Valletta, Shay moved on to Adam Spott, a bartender at SUR. Their friendship and relationship is currently being shown on season 7 of the show.

She has also been seen at events with Max Boyens, who she also works with at SUR.

Though Shay has had a number of relationships post-divorce, none of them have been very serious or have brought the option of kids to the table.
