‘Vanderpump Rules’: Lisa Vanderpump Decided to Close 1 of Her Most Popular Restaurants, Is SUR Next?

Lisa Vanderpump is known for being a restauranteur. Most people know her for SUR, the restaurant that is the setting for the reality show Vanderpump Rules, but she also has a number of restaurants around the world. Vanderpump’s restaurants usually see a lot of foot traffic due to the notoriety of Vanderpump’s name alone. But the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has caused a lot of restaurants to close.

Recently, Vanderpump shut down her Beverly Hills restaurant Villa Blanca.

Lisa Vanderpump opens up about closing Villa Blanca

After rumors had been floating around about Villa Blanca’s closing, Vanderpump finally spoke about what happened.

“Although there have been many untrue articles in the past week or so about the reasons for closing Villa Blanca, we are indeed going to be closing up our doors for good,” she told Daily Mail.

Vanderpump had been willing to work with the landlord in order to keep the restaurant open, but unfortunately, that didn’t work out.

“If the landlord had been willing to renegotiate and the lease wasn’t ending, we would have reopened, but unfortunately with coronavirus, the situation was beyond our control,” Vanderpump said.

But just because this location has closed doesn’t mean that the restaurant will be gone forever.

“While saying goodbye to the location where we have actively served the Beverly Hills community for 12 years and employed hundreds of Angelenos, is a sad time for us, we are excited to perhaps bring Villa Blanca back in the future at a different location – as its staff and customers have always been a family,” she told the outlet.

Was Villa Blanca losing money?

The decision to close the restaurant wasn’t an easy one to make.

“Lisa and Ken loved Villa Blanca and were quite attached to it so it was really hard to close for them and it wasn’t an easy decision to make,” a source close to Vanderpump told HollywoodLife. “It was her baby essentially and she frequented there almost daily.”

Apparently, this closure had been a long time coming for the restaurant.

“They held onto it so long because they didn’t want to see it close,” the source continued. “The restaurant hasn’t been doing well for a while now and their other establishments were doing much better. It’s always been more of a lunch and happy hour spot and never really was packed. The rent for that corner in Beverly Hills is insanely expensive, too.”

Is SUR closing?

Though the pandemic has certainly caused the restaurant industry as a whole to take a hit, it doesn’t mean that Vanderpump will be closing more of her restaurants.

According to the source, Vanderpump is planning on reopening TomTom, her restaurant with Vanderpump Rules‘ stars Tom Schwartz and Tom Sandoval in August. SUR is also planning to reopen in August.

“After Governor Newsom’s announcement yesterday on July 1st and the new protocol received from the Public Health Department today, we have decided to stay closed until August for the safety of our staff and our community,” the restaurant stated on Instagram at the beginning of July. “Stay healthy / Be positive.”
