‘Very Cavallari’: Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler’s Divorce Is Already Getting Messy
Most people go into a divorce hoping to keep things amicable, but very rarely is the separating of two lives a pleasant thing. When Kristin Cavallari first announced that she was splitting from her husband, Jay Cutler, she made it sound like it a mutual decision and that there were no hard feelings. Now, as more information comes out, it’s clear that there is more to the story than fans were originally led to believe.
After over a decade together, Cavallari and Cutler decided to end their relationship.
“With great sadness, after 10 years together we have come to a loving conclusion to get a divorce,” Cavallari wrote on her Instagram. “We have nothing but love and respect for one another and are deeply grateful for the years shared, memories made, and the children we are so proud of. This is just the situation of two people growing apart. We ask everyone to respect our privacy as we navigate this difficult time within our family.”
But things were supposedly very amicable between them. They even went on a vacation to the Bahamas together after deciding to split.
“On their recent trip, they already knew they were splitting up,” a source told People. “The reason they announced it now is because it’s a quiet time for them to work through all of this and try to move forward.”
Custody of the children
Divorces tend to get messy when it comes to the kids. Cavallari is currently asking for sole custody of her children with visitation rights for Cutler.
In documents obtained by HollywoodLife, she “denies that the Husband has always been the available at home parent and primary caretaker of the parties’ minor children. Wife would show that she has been the primary residential parent and she is a fit and proper person to be named Primary Residential Parent.”
Cutler, on the other hand, is petitioning for joint custody.
Is Jay blocking Kristin from buying a house?
According to court documents obtained by People, Cavallari has been looking for a new home since Nov. 2019, and Cutler never had a problem with her search. In March, she “realized the attempt to reconcile was not working and knew a divorce was inevitable.”
When she told Cutler that she found a new house, Cutler refused to allow her to take the money from their joint account to purchase the home.
Cavallari claims that Cutler told her “his attorney was going to tell their business manager to not release the funds.” She believes this is her husband’s way of “punishing her for not accepting his offer” regarding their divorce settlement.
Cavallari says that she has the money to buy the house, but Cutler has “attempted to intimidate” her “into accepting his parenting plan,” by not allowing her to get the funds she needs to move out of their shared home.
What went wrong in the marriage?
Reportedly, things had been off within the Cavallari/Cutler house for a while.
“He would make her cry all the time during production. He talked down to her and belittled her,” one of Cavallari’s friends told People. “She couldn’t take it anymore.”
Apparently, the reality star had been unhappy for at least three years.
“He belittles Kristin and makes her cry in front of other people,” the source continued. “He flies off the handle at the littlest thing and would make Kristin absolutely miserable.”
