‘Vikings’ Sequel ‘Valhalla’ Is Headed to Netflix With New Characters

The hit series Vikings may be coming to an end after season 6, but the story of the Vikings is far from over. A new Vikings saga is on the horizon. Michael Hirst, the creator of the hit series is bringing his newest Viking story to Netflix. The drama will continue with a new series called Vikings: Valhalla. Read on to learn more.

What will the new series be about?

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Netflix announced the show has a series order and will include an impressive 24 episodes already. It isn’t yet known if that will be split between two separate seasons or include a large episode count for the first season.

The new story will follow up 100 years after Vikings ends and features the lives of famous Vikings that include Leif Erikson, Freydis, Harald Harada, as well as the Norman King William the Conqueror. The characters will be interesting additions to the Vikings story.

Who will be working on ‘Vikings: Valhalla’?

Hirst chose Jeb Stuart to write the script for the new sequel series and work as the showrunner. Executive producers for the new show include Hirst, Stuart, and Morgan O’Sullivan. Vikings: Valhalla is a project from MGM TV and production will return to Ireland and a lot of the old Vikings team will return.

“I am beyond excited that we are announcing the continuation of our Vikings saga,” Hirst explained via a statement. “I know that the millions of our fans across the globe will be thrilled by the belief being shown in our show by MGM and Netflix. Jeb Stuart, a truly wonderful writer, will bring new storylines and a powerful visceral vision to stories about some of the most famous Vikings known to history.”

Steve Stark, who is MGM’s president of TV production and development, said of the project: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Michael, Morgan, Jeb and Netflix on the next chapter in the incredible Vikings universe. Valhalla has been a labor of love for everyone involved and as we look ahead to the continuation of this great saga, we are excited to know that fans the world over will have the opportunity to continue with the series on its new home at Netflix.”

When will the final season of ‘Vikings’ premiere?

Fans will get to see how things all play out for Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) and the rest of their favorite Vikings on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 9 p.m. E.S.T. The premiere of season 6 will last two hours and will be followed up by eight more episodes. 10 additional episodes will conclude things in 2020, which will feel like an entirely new season.

Fans are glad the Vikings story isn’t actually over just yet. Even after the show ends, Vikings: Valhalla will be there to fill the void.
