The first half of the final season of Vikings will premiere on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 9 p.m. E.S.T. The premiere will last two hours and will have an additional eight episodes to air on Wednesdays at 10 p.m. E.S.T. There will thankfully be another 10 episodes that will follow in 2020 sometime, so it will essentially feel like a whole new season for viewers.

What fans are saying about the end of ‘Vikings’

Fans have strong opinions on both sides of the coin. Many still consider it a great show, while others are ready for it to come to an end. Reddit is full of users eager to share their opinions on the series.

“I used to love this show so much. I don’t hate it now and still enjoy it from time to time, but they used to show so many different aspects of Viking life (and English kingdoms),” a Reddit user noted. “I remember a season 1 episode entirely focused on a religious tradition. Now it’s war – politics (with bad twists) – cheating – betrayals – ‘our Gods good, yours bad’ micro debates. Ragnar, Athelstan, Ecbert and first seasons Lagertha are dearly missed.”

Fans are hoping to see more Viking exploring

Some fans are hoping for better adventures from the characters in the final season. “Hoping they do a better job on new ventures.. Writing was horrid the last season,” someone else said.

“Hopefully we get more of Bjorn’s adventures in Arabia. We won’t have the halfdan bromance but it should still be interesting,” another pointed out.

Some fans think the show has changed

“I think that the Great Heathen Army avenging Ragnar was really the furthest point they ever wanted to do,” a Reddit user wrote. “Everything to do with the sons of Ragnar after that point has felt like a rushed afterthought.”

“Honestly I can’t say I’m elated to see another season shaping up to be dominated by Ivar,” another Reddit user wrote.

“Gotta be honest guys this is all just kinda meh to me. And I say that as someone who used to call Vikings one of their favourite shows,” another user noted in regards to the season 6 trailer.

People are over the ‘brothers’ war’

“I really hope they ditch the whole good brother bad brother thing and get back into that good moral gray area that Vikings functions so well in,” a Reddit user pointed out.

“Just another brothers war with some romance drama and cringe dialogues? I oddly enjoyed the latest season because it had some good moments, but this looks so repetative… Where is the spirit of first three seasons? Gone forever with Ragnar and Ecbert?” a user pointed out.

Some viewers remain hopeful for season 6

Other fans are hopeful after seeing the trailer for the upcoming season. “I don’t know if it was just a good trailer, or I’m getting my hopes up, but this season looks like an improvement on the last couple,” someone wrote.

“Looks good. I am reservedly hopeful that this will be a better season than the last one, if only because Hirst evidently wants to get somewhere with the story. Maybe we’re there, already, after a season 5 that was, above all things, extremely rushed,” another user pointed out on Reddit.

The final season of Vikings is almost here and it will be the end of an era one way or another.
