Vin Diesel’s Next Marvel Role May Be Inhuman

It looks like Vin Diesel is lobbying for a role in another Marvel film. The actor, who lent his voice to the character of the lovable Groot in 2014’s smash hit Guardians of the Galaxy, recently dropped major hints on his social media accounts about his possible participation in the studio’s upcoming movie, Inhumans.

Over the holiday weekend, Diesel posted an image of himself to his Facebook page, alongside a message that read “Are you inhuman?” This is the second time in recent months that the actor has teased the possibility that he’ll be taking on another Marvel role. In August, he caused a fan frenzy by posting another message that read, “I get the strange feeling that Marvel thinks I’m Inhuman … Haha.”

As of now, neither Diesel nor Marvel has actually confirmed the nature of the actor’s involvement in the project or if he’s even involved at all. However, it’s certainly not outside the realm of the possibility. As many have pointed out already, Diesel’s portrayal of Groot doesn’t discount him as a potential candidate for another comic character, as the Guardians part is only a voice role — and a limited one at that, given Groot’s narrow vocabulary. With that in mind, there’s no reason Diesel couldn’t also take on a character in the Inhumans movie and act as part of both Marvel franchises. If his enthusiastic hints are any indication, it’s clear that the actor himself would jump at the possibility. But the question remains, which of the Inhumans characters would he play?

The Marvel comic Inhumans film isn’t scheduled until 2018, so cast members have yet to be announced. The movie will follow a group of superhumans, all of whom possess a unique power after becoming exposed to a substance known as the Terrigen Mist. As with Guardians of the Galaxy, it’s a story that many casual comic fans may not know much about. Still, those who are familiar with the comic’s premise are already speculating over which role Diesel may play. Fans and critics alike seem to be drawn to one character in particular for Diesel to take on: Blackagar Boltagon aka Black Bolt.

For those unfamiliar with the series, Black Bolt is the leader of the Inhumans. Per The Hollywood Reporter, he first appeared in 1965’s Fantastic Four No. 45. He can fly and boasts superhuman strength, as well as incredibly fast reflexes. But perhaps the main reason why many believe the role will be the perfect complement to Diesel’s Groot? Black Bolt emits large amounts of energy and force through his strong tone of voice — enough that he can potentially destroy buildings just by speaking, if he’s not cautious. Due to this, he rarely ever speaks, with the exception of a few well-timed jokes. In order to avoid conversing too much, he develops a telepathic bond with his wife, Medusa.

Considering that his last Marvel was all voice, some think it would only be appropriate for Diesel’s next comic role to place more focus on appearance and less on dialogue. Not to mention, plenty have pointed out a resemblance between Diesel’s tough-guy exterior and Black Bolt.

Unfortunately, moviegoers will likely have to wait a while for any official news on Diesel’s potential participation in the movie. Inhumans is currently set for release on November 2, 2018.
