Was Captain Marvel Just Dethroned As the Strongest Avenger Again?

There is no doubt that Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), is one of the strongest superheroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but that might change as the studio heads into Phase 4. Marvel will be introducing a slew of new characters over the next two years, including She-Hulk, who will be featured as part of a new Disney+ series. With She-Hulk reportedly joining the team in Avengers 5, will she dethrone Captain Marvel as the strongest Avenger?

Everything we know about ‘She-Hulk’

She-Hulk, a.k.a. Jennifer Walters, was first introduced in the Marvel comics in 1980. Per her origin story, she suffered a devastating injury that required a blood transfusion to save her life.

Because she is Bruce Banner’s cousin, he was on hand to give her a dose of his blood to heal her. That gave her some of Hulk’s powers, which is why she is referred to as She-Hulk.

But unlike her cousin, Jennifer has the ability to control when she transforms into She-Hulk. This makes her a very formidable opponent, and there is a good chance that she will have a long life in the MCU following Phase 4.

Marvel has not announced when She-Hulk will premiere on Disney+, but the series is expected to be released in the next few years. The character is also reportedly going to appear in Avengers 5, which has also yet to receive a premiere date.

How strong is Captain Marvel?

In the comics, Captain Marvel’s current storyline, “The Last Avenger,” sees her tracking down all of the other Avengers and taking them out. Carol is forced to fight her friends because of Vox Supreme, who has threatened humanity if she does not comply.

Although Captain Marvel didn’t actually take out her pals, she did fight all of them with relative ease, including the likes of Iron Man, Thor, and Black Panther. According to Screen Rant, her biggest challenge by far was She-Hulk, who hardly has any weaknesses.

In order to defeat She-Hulk, Carol had to absorb her power and knock her unconscious, a tactic she also used with Thor. Captain Marvel defeating She-Hulk proves that she is the strongest Avenger – at least in the comics.

It is unclear if Marvel will follow this line of thinking once She-Hulk is introduced, but the character is hardly the only superhero competing for the top spot as the strongest Avenger.

Marvel’s Kevin Feige reveals who is the strongest in the MCU

Carol may have bested She-Hulk in the comics, but there is another superhero in the MCU who has comparable strength.

After the release of Captain Marvel in 2019, Marvel president Kevin Feige admitted that Larson’s character is the strongest superhero in the MCU. But following the events in Avengers: Endgame Feige seemingly changed his tune.

“Well, I think it’s interesting, if you look at Endgame, Wanda Maximoff was gonna kill Thanos,” Feige shared. “If he hadn’t desperately… that’s as scared as I’ve ever seen Thanos. And if he hadn’t said, ‘Decimate my entire team to get her off of me,’ I think she would’ve done it.”

Based on Feige’s comments, there is an argument to be made about Wanda, a.k.a. Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), being the strongest superhero in the MCU. What’s even more interesting about Wanda’s powers is that they appear to be increasing and will likely continue to grow stronger as we head into Marvel’s Phase 4.

Wanda, of course, is slated to appear in the upcoming series, WandaVision, which should shed more light on her extraordinary abilities.

How powerful is Scarlet Witch?

Scarlet Witch is very powerful in the comics and has a wide range of skills. This includes the ability to make force fields, manipulate energy, explode objects with her mind, and manipulate reality.

Marvel fans will likely see Wanda’s reality-bending powers in WandaVision. In the first trailer for the series, Wanda and Vision (Paul Bettany) are shown living a normal life in what appears to be a ‘50s sitcom.

Viewers have theorized that Wanda created this alternate reality after losing Vision in Avengers: Infinity War. If that holds true, then there will likely be big consequences to her actions, including the creation of multiple realities.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness will be exploring the multiverse, so it is possible that the events in WandaVision will have a direct impact on the film.

Marvel’s WandaVision is scheduled for release in December of 2020.
