Was Jessa Duggar’s Third Pregnancy Planned?
We’ve been keeping up with the Duggar family for years thanks to TLC shows like 19 Kids and Counting. While many viewers were astonished to find conservative couple Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar had 19 kids of their own, we couldn’t help but watch as they raised their children with ultra-strict rules and odd dating rituals. Nowadays, the kids are growing up fast — and we’ve been able to keep up with the eldest on Counting On as they begin their own families.
Jessa Duggar is one family member fans love to follow on social media, and recently, she announced she and her husband, Ben Seewald, are expecting their third child. Was this pregnancy planned? Here’s what they’ve said.
Jessa and Ben are expecting their third child in the spring
Jessa and Ben recently announced exciting news — and that’s that they’re once again expecting. People reports the baby is due in the spring, and the little family couldn’t be more thrilled. “We are overjoyed that God has blessed us with a baby, due late this Spring!” the 26-year-old mom told the publication.
The couple already have two boys — Spurgeon, who’s 3, and Henry, who’s only 23 months. As for Jessa and Ben’s relationship, there’s no doubt the two are totally committed to each other, too, as they married back in 2013 and were pregnant with Spurgeon soon after. And Ben is equally as excited about the news of another pregnancy, as told People that he absolutely adores being a dad. “Seeing our boys meet their new sibling for the first time is something we are really looking forward to!” he said. “We realize that, in going from two to three kids, we’re about to switch from man-to-man to zone coverage, so we’ve definitely been taking advice from friends who are already in this stage!”

Best friends forever. I thank God for giving me such a caring, compassionate, patient, thoughtful, understanding, selfless, loving, godly husband. I’m reminded daily just how blessed I am to be married to you. I don’t know another man who is as quick to ask forgiveness when he messes up as you are. I don’t know another dad who is more involved in the diapers, cuddles, wrestling matches and training moments as you are. I don’t know another man who is as sensitive to the emotions and feelings of others as you are. You’re a priceless treasure. God blessed me beyond in giving me you.
Jessa may be overjoyed with the news of baby No. 3 — but was the pregnancy planned? From what we know of the Seewalds, it seems they did indeed plan on having another child soon after their second. People reports when Henry was just a newborn, they were already discussing the possibility of having more kids in the future. As Jessa said, “It will be a little while since we just had a baby, but adopting and fostering to adopt is very much in our hearts.”
Back in July, Jessa also told Us Weekly that seeing her new baby niece, Felicity, was making her want even more kids. “I definitely have baby fever,” she said. And while she wasn’t expecting at the time, she did say that she’d be “overjoyed if we were to find out we were expecting again.”
She wants a baby girl
Jessa and Ben have two boys, and the two feel like they’ve got a good handle on how to raise them. As Jessa told Us Weekly, “We’d probably feel like we were having to start again from ground zero if we had a girl thrown in the mix!” And Jessa and Ben even noted to People that they day they found out about the pregnancy, they both guessed they’d be having another boy, “and if our predictions are right then we already have a ton the clothing and accessories ready to pass down!” she said.
Even so, it appears the couple wants to change the family dynamic up a bit. “At the same time, we would absolutely love it if we found out we were having a girl — though we’ve joked that we’d be starting from square one and might have to learn a few things,” Jessa added. If they do end up having another boy, we wouldn’t be surprised if the couple adopts a little girl at one point, as they’ve both noted that’s totally on the table.
