It’s been over a year since Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced that they were expecting their first child and almost six months since the Duchess of Sussex gave birth to Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor. However, questions about the pregnancy announcement and timing of it are still debated among royal fans today.
Some believe that the prince and retired actress waited to tell the royal family about the news the day of Princess Eugenie’s wedding while others claim that is simply not true because the royals knew about it before then. Now though it’s being reported that Queen Elizabeth II wasn’t happy about the announcement because it overshadowed another important event.
Here’s more on whether or not Her Majesty was upset and who was the first person in the family to hear about the pregnancy.
The queen was upset when Markle announced her pregnancy?
Business Times noted that several reports claim that the queen was not pleased with the timing of Markle’s pregnancy announcement to the public.
According to those reports, Her Majesty was “offended” after the news as it came just as the duke and duchess were starting their 16-day tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji.
The royal visit was the couple’s first together since they were married and was supposed to promote specific causes of the crown but instead much of the interest and focus was on the fact that Markle was expecting.
Her Majesty was the first to know
However, despite these claims, palace sources said that the queen was not “offended” at all. In fact, Her Majesty was the first to know and gave her grandson and Markle the greenlight to announce it when they felt appropriate.
It’s protocol that the queen is always notified before the rest of the family whenever there is a pregnancy, a marriage proposal, or a birth. Once the monarch is told and only after she is told, the couple is free to inform others.
Prince Harry and Markle plan on having another child?
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may have another child in the future. After welcoming baby Archie on May 6, Harry revealed that they would have one more little one.
In an interview with British Vogue, the prince shared with conservationist Dr. Jane Goodall that he and his wife would have only two kids total to be kinder to the environment.
“I’ve always had a connection and a love for nature. I view it differently now, without question. But I’ve always wanted to try and ensure that, even before having a child and hoping to have children…”
“Not too many!” Dr. Goodall interjected to which Harry responded, “Two, maximum!”
We’re guessing that if and when the duchess becomes pregnant again, the queen will be delighted with the news and won’t have a problem with when Markle chooses to announce it.
