Watch Princess Diana’s Restored Wedding Video
The royal wedding between Princess Diana and Prince Charles has been released by the Associated Press in a new high-resolution video on YouTube, featuring footage from the historic event in 1981.
The video features 4k resolution and shows footage from the church ceremony and the Buckingham Palace balcony, and includes an announcer’s commentary from day which took place July 29, 1981.
“The world gets its first glimpse of the fairytale princess, demure behind her veil, and the wedding dress that has been a carefully regarded secret,” the commentator says on the video. “[The dress is made of] resplendent, ivory silk taffeta, trimmed with antique lace and a long, long train, all 25 feet hand embroidered. As bewitching and romantic a bride as ever touched the heart of the world.”
The YouTube clip is an extract from a new 25-minute British Movietone documentary called “The Royal Wedding.”
AP also released an additional YouTube video titled “Behind The Scene: Restoring Royal Wedding Video” in which Movietone’s “The Royal Wedding” executive producer Peter Hampton is interviewed. “This was going to be the wedding of a king, so it was really, really important at the time,” Hampton said.
In other Princess Diana news, with the 20th anniversary of Diana’s death approaching, today the Royal Society of Portrait Painters released two portraits of the princess painted more than 30 years ago, along with accounts’ of the artists memories of Diana, reported USA Today.
The 30th anniversary of Diana’s death is August 31, 2017. On Aug. 31, 1997, she was fatally injured in a car crash in a tunnel in Paris. The death also resulted in the deaths of her company Dodi Fayed and their driver, Henri Paul.
