‘KUWTK’: We Understand Why Kourtney Kardashian Is Quitting the Show
Kourtney Kardashian has significantly pulled back on filming Keeping Up with the Kardashians in Season 18. Her decision didn’t shock viewers, considering how long she has been talking about wanting to leave the show.
Fans are understanding of Kardashians decision, especially given the reasons she has decided to remove herself from KUWTK.
Kourtney did the heavy-lifting during the show’s early years
Early on, the eldest Kardashian let camera crews capture almost anything that was going on in her life. At the time, that was mostly her relationship with then-boyfriend, Scott Disick. Later, Kardashian revealed having cameras around to shoot the entirety of their relationship did more harm than good. “I shared everything from my relationship with Scott — everything — to where all these people were involved in my relationship, and it was horrible for our relationship,” Kardashian explained on KUWTK.
Despite the damage filming did to her relationship, Kardashian continued to let her life be filmed. She gave fans a backstage pass to the birth of her children. During season 4, Kardashian gave birth to Mason Dash Disick with cameras were in the delivery room. Fans watched as Kardashian physically pulled her son out.
Two years later, Kardashian had Penelope Scotland Disick, and in 2014 Kardashian gave birth to Reign Aston Disick. However limited, all of Kardashian’s children have made appearances on the series.
Kourtney wants to focus on her kids
Before season 18 aired, Kardashian expressed to Entertainment Tonight how she wanted to put more of her focus on her family. “I just decided to spend more time as a mom and put more of my energy there,” she explained, quickly adding: “But I’m not saying goodbye. I think you’ll have to see more of it on the new season, season 18.”
Kardashian has always emphasized motherhood, regardless of whether or not she was filming. With her pulling back from the show and the coronavirus (COVID-19) quarantine, she’s likely spending as much quality time with her kids as she can.
Kourtney Kardashian has other dreams and aspirations
The 41-year-old mother of three took a hiatus from the Kardashian family’s most significant project to pursue dreams of her own. “I have decided to take a big step back from filming and really just pick and choose what I will allow cameras to follow,” Kardashian told cameras. “I think just now when I have something that I find is interesting to film, or that I would feel excited to film, that I do that.”
This has left room for Kardashian to take on other projects that she’s passionate about. She recently starred on Lil Dicky’s FXX series, Dave. Kardashian played herself as a guest at Justin Bieber’s house party.
Kardashian also runs her own business. Her lifestyle brand Poosh requires a lot of time and effort — something she wants to inject her whole self into doing. Her goal with Poosh is to negate the stigma around healthy living and provide fans with a “curated experience and a destination for modern living.”
While fans will undoubtedly miss Kardashian’s presence, her reasons for taking a step back are understandable. It will be exciting to see what the rest of season 18 holds for the Kardashian-Jenners, and even more interesting to see what the oldest Kardashian sibling digs into next.
