‘Westworld’: New Characters That Will Show Up In Season 2

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the return of Westworld for what feels like forever. We’ve theorized about Dolores, Maeve, the Man in Black, and the other worlds. And we’ve wondered what complex, layered mysteries the HBO series will unveil next.

Now that the Season 2 premiere is imminent, we’re starting to get our first look at the new players. There are potential allies for the hosts, Delos employees, park visitors, and even a couple of intriguing new players we don’t know much about.

Here’s everything we do know about Westworld’s new characters, including a mysterious duo from an entirely different theme park (pages 7 and 8).

1. Maling

Predictably, the Westworld team is keeping a lot of Season 2’s details under wraps. But we do know that we’ll meet Maling, who will be charged with cleaning up the mess that Dolores and her fellow hosts make during their revolution.

Betty Gabriel, who’s wowed critics with her scene-stealing performances in Get Out and Good Girls Revolt, will play Maling.

2. Nicholas

Here’s what we know about Season 2 newcomer Nicholas: He’s a “charming and resourceful man who finds himself in uncharted territory.” And he’ll be played by Neil Jackson, of Sleepy Hollow and Quantum of Solace fame.

What we don’t know is if he’ll be human or host, friend or foe. But the fact that they’re keeping his character details under wraps is certainly intriguing.

It looks like Westworld’s management may have to call in the big guns. Major Craddock, a commanding officer, will make his debut in Season 2.

Details about his role, and how the military fits into Westworld’s bigger storyline, are unclear. But we do know that veteran actor Jonathan Tucker (American Gods, Kingdom) will bring Major Craddock to life.

4. Antoine Costa

What’s happening behind the scenes was a big focus in Westworld’s first season. We can expect to see more of Delos’ efforts to keep the hosts contained when we pick back up in Season 2.

One new player will be Antoine Costa. Fares Fares (Zero Dark Thirty, Rogue One) will play the mysterious tech expert, who will undoubtedly be part of the efforts to get the park back under control.

5. Grace

If you’ve watched trailers for Season 2 of Westworld, you know that the park’s visitors are in for a rough time. Dolores’ rebellion appears to have evolved into a full-fledged massacre. And at least one new character could be caught in the crossfire.

Katja Herbers (The Americans, The Leftovers) will play Grace, a long-time Westworld visitor and enthusiast. Since Herbers was named a series regular, it’s safe to assume that Grace will stick around for a while. She may offer a way for fans to experience the visitors’ horror as they try to escape the hosts’ wrath.

6. Karl Strand

Between Alexander’s award-winning role in Big Little Lies and Bill’s star-making turn as IT’s Pennywise, the Skarsgård family has had a good run in Hollywood lately. And it’s about to get even better, since brother Gustaf Skarsgård will be co-starring in Westworld Season 2.

Skarsgard, who’s also appeared in Vikings, will play Karl Strand. The character is described as being “white-collared, but he has no problem getting his hands dirty.”

That could mean he’s a Delos employee sent in for damage control. Or he could be yet another Westworld patron.

Next: This new character’s arrival may also introduce a whole new world to Westworld fans.

7. Mushashi

The final episode of Westworld’s first season gave fans a glimpse of defunct Samurai hosts in the Programming Division. And it looks like we’ll get to see more of that theme world in upcoming episodes.

In Season 2, we’ll meet Mushashi, played by Hiroyuki Sanada (Lost, The Wolverine).  We haven’t had a much of a chance to see Sanada in action yet. But Funko Pop revealed a Mushashi figure during Comic Con in 2017.

We don’t know much else about him, yet, other than that he’ll be a recurring character and he clearly comes from Shogun World. Only time will tell if he’ll share Dolores’ thirst for justice..

Like Mushashi, Akane is likely a part of Shogun World. We’ve learned next to nothing else about her – but did get a glimpse of her in full geisha attire in the Westworld Season 2 trailer.

Akane will be played by Rinko Kikuchi, who’s best known for her stunning, Oscar-nominated performance in Babel. And if her filmography is any indication, she’s primed to give another powerhouse performance in Westworld’s second season.

Next: We don’t even know this new character’s name yet but we can’t wait to learn more.

9. Zahn McClarnon’s unnamed character

The new Westworld character Zahn McClarnon plays is so mysterious, we don’t even know his name yet. But we do know, thanks to the most recent Season 2 trailer, that he appears to be a Native American leader.

Some fans think McClarnon’s character could be the leader of the equally mysterious Ghost Nation. Whoever he is, Westworld is lucky to have the actor on board — his prestigious career spans three decades, and includes roles in The Shield, Longmire, and Fargo.
