‘Westworld’: Will Dolores Return for Season 4?
With the season 3 finale of Westworld, fans finally got some answers about Rehoboam and Serac (Vincent Cassell.) They also found out the truth about the Man in Black (Ed Harris). But after that final scene with Dolores (Evan Rachel Wood), many were left wondering if she’s going to return for season 4?
[Spoiler alert: This post contains spoilers for Westworld, Season 3, Episode 8.]
What happened to Dolores on the season finale of ‘Westworld’?
A bleeding, one-armed Dolores is found by Serac’s thug with her brain ball missing. As it turns out, Caleb (Aaron Paul) has her core with him, and he takes it to a locked and abandoned warehouse. When he gets in, Caleb finds an old Dolores prototype in a Delos box.
The body is mostly a metal skeleton, but when he places the brain ball inside, it awakens with Dolores’s consciousness. She puts on her skinsuit and tells Caleb that he needs to take the Solomon drive to Incite to upload it into Rehoboam.
On their way to Incite, Charlotte (Tessa Thompson) ambushes Dolores, so Caleb is forced to go alone. Meanwhile, Maeve (Thandie Newton) finds Dolores, and the two engage in some pretty amazing hand to hand combat. But somehow, Charlotte manages to shut Dolores’s system down, so that Maeve can take her to Serac.
To find the encryption key inside Dolores’s system, Serac hooks her up to Rehoboam and begins deleting her files. When this doesn’t work, Maeve dives into Dolores’s mind and discovers her true intentions. Maeve stops Serac, and Caleb who is also there, shuts down Rehoboam.
But by the time they can put an end to it, all of Dolores’s files and data are deleted. Maeve and Caleb leave her laying there at Incite, with her memory completely wiped out. So, one can assume, without no memory left, Dolores is basically dead.
Will Dolores return for ‘Westworld’ season 4?
If there’s one thing fans know about Westworld, it’s that no one, human or host, is ever really dead. We already know there is at least one copy of Dolores in the world — Charlotte. If her memories are intact in Charlotte’s brain, it’s completely plausible that she comes back in some capacity.
And in the final scene of the episode, Charlotte is making what looks like hundreds of hosts in the Delos research lab. Theoretically, just like Dolores did at the beginning of the season, Charlotte could copy her brain and put it in a new Dolores body.
What we know about Season 4 so far
While there’s no word on casting or story, what we do know is that Westworld will return for Season 4. In an April 22 statement to Variety, HBO’s head of programming, Casey Bloys confirmed the news.
“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy,” Bloys said. “We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next.”
It isn’t clear if Evan Rachel Wood will return to play Dolores. But fans will probably get more information closer to the Season 4 premiere.
