What Beyonce and Meghan Markle Talked About When They Broke Royal Protocol

Beyonce and Meghan Markle in one room…talk about mind blown. The two icons met at the premiere of The Lion King in London and fans went absolutely insane. Queen Bey meeting an actual royal, does it get any better?

But apparently, everyone hasn’t been as happy about the meeting as the rest of us since Markle and Beyonce broke royal protocol when they met.

How did Markle and Beyonce break royal protocol?

According to the monarchy’s official website “there are no obligatory codes of behavior when meeting The Queen or a member of the Royal Family,” but the regime does offer options of what to do for those who want to”to observe the traditional forms.”

Touching royals upon your first time meeting them is frowned upon, according to etiquette experts, and women should opt for something more formal than a handshake, like a curtsey.

When Beyonce and Markle met, there was no curtseying involved. In fact, the two embraced as if they were old friends.

In addition to greeting each other improperly, the women weren’t even supposed to take a picture together.

“If she takes a photo with Beyoncé everyone’s going to say, ‘She’s so Hollywood, this is not what Royals do,'” royal commentator Justin Sylvester told E! News.

“If she doesn’t take the photo with Beyoncé everyone is going to say, ‘She snubbed her [or] she’s too good for her,” Sylvester continued.

What did Beyonce and Markle talk about?

In the photo, the two can be seen laughing and smiling with one another. So, what were they talking about?

“My princess,” Beyonce reportedly said as they hugged.

Beyonce also commented on Markle’s baby, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor.

“The baby, so beautiful,” she was overheard saying.

She also told Markle that she and Jay-Z love her and Harry, according to multiple outlets.

The musical couple have obviously been fans of Markle for a while as they included a portrait of her in their music video for “Apesh*t.”

Other times Markle has broken royal protocol

This isn’t the first time that Markle has broken protocol. With the birth of her son alone, she broke a few rules.

Tonight, The Duke and Duchess of Sussex attended the first of a two game series of the Major League Baseball #LondonSeries, in support of @WeAreInvictusGames. Tonight’s highly anticipated game between the #Yankees and #RedSox took place at London stadium, Olympic Park. The @WeAreInvictusGames, of which His Royal Highness is Founding Patron, has been selected as charity partner for the @MLB 2019 series. The Invictus Games Foundation is the international charity that oversees the development of the Invictus Games, an international adaptive multi-sport event in which wounded, injured or sick armed service personnel and veterans participate. It celebrates the power of sport in recovery and how it can help, physically or psychologically, those suffering from injuries or illness. The word ‘invictus’ means ‘unconquered’ – it embodies the fighting spirit of the competitors. As part of the partnership, the Invictus Games Foundation have a team participating in London’s #Softball60, the social softball series built for the city and targeted to introduce the sport to new audiences and demonstrate that it is an inclusive sport. On this #ArmedForcesDay, tonight’s event was also a chance for Their Royal Highnesses to shine a light on the men and women here in the UK and around the world who have sacrificed so much for their country. Instead of having the baby at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital as the royal family has for decades, Markle chose to have Archie at Portland Hospital in London. She also chose not to do a photo opportunity on the hospital steps as royals, including her sister-in-law, Kate Middleton, have done.

Royals also don’t typically sign autographs, but Markle has done that a couple of times. It might be a force of habit from when she was an actress, but either way, it’s definitely not something that is looked kindly upon.

Markle also breaks protocol with her outfit choices quite often.

Royal expert Victoria Arbiter once told Business Insider that wearing tights is “really the only hard, steadfast rule in terms of what the Queen requires,” but Markle has been spotted tightless on multiple occasions.

In addition to those fashion faux pas, the royal women typically wear nude or very light nail polish, but when presenting at the Fashion Awards in 2018, Markle opted for black nails. How scandalous.
