What Does the New ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ Trailer Reveal?

Fans are dying to see Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Disney is apparently aware of this. To make the film even more tantalizing, all information that Disney has divulged about the film has been vague. The final trailer for the film debuted today and gives audiences little sense of the film’s plot. Here are the most interesting – albeit minor – reveals in the latest trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

C-3PO might die

Alongside his plucky sidekick, R2-D2, C-3PO is probably the most beloved comic relief character in the entire Star Wars saga. He has been a part of the franchise from the very beginning and thus is very near and dear to the hearts of many Star Wars fans. The new trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker implies that he might soon be gone forever. The trailer shows a damaged C-3PO telling Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron that he wants the chance to look at his friends for one last time.

This scene echoes the final conversation between Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader, where the latter says that he wants to be able to see his son once with his own eyes. It’s still unclear whether C-3PO is actually going to die in The Rise of Skywalker or if he simply believes that he might die. Either way, this scene could be very emotional.

Palpatine has been waiting for Rey

Star Wars fans across the world were shocked when the first trailer for The Rise of Skywalker revealed that the Emperor himself, Palpatine, would be returning from the grave. Many fans wondered what was preventing Palpatine from returning earlier than this. In the new trailer for The Rise of Skywalker, Palpatine says that he has been long been waiting for this moment to arise. This line would suggest that Palpatine has a good reason for sitting out the events of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. Hopefully, J. J. Abrams and company will have a compelling explanation for Palpatine’s return in the new film.

Rey and Kylo Ren will team up

A very brief shot in the trailer shows Rey and Kylo Ren destroying something together with their lightsabers. It’s not clear what they’re doing or why they’re doing it, however, it is clear that they’re going to join forces in some way. This is a big deal, since the plot of The Last Jedi reveals that the two characters have a telepathic connection between each other. This left many fans wondering whether Rey would convert Kylo Ren to the light side or if Kylo Ren would convert Rey to the dark side.

The Death Star will return

Another brief shot in the trailer appears to show Kylo Ren and Rey standing in the ruins of the Emperor’s throne room from the second Death Star. Much like Palpatine, the Death Star will have a role in the new movie despite apparently being destroyed in Return of the Jedi. Although the Death Star does not make an appearance in every Star Wars film, some Star Wars films without the Death Star like The Phantom Menace and The Force Awakens include a similar spacecraft as an homage to the original trilogy.
