Motivation to move

The former talk show was married to NFL Hall of Famer Frank Gifford for almost 30 years before he passed away in August 2015. The couple shared two children – Cody, 29, and Cassidy, 26. Gifford became a widow and empty nester at the same time, and soon after lost her mother. In her visit on Today earlier this month, she spoke of how the loneliness she felt in the large home she once shared with her husband prompted her to make a move.

“It went from being the most teeming, thrilling, joyful, all the dog sounds, the kid sounds, the smoke in the grill and, you know, it just was life,” she remembered, according to Today.com. “Then it came to feel like a mortuary with me just there alone. And I said I need to make a new life for myself or this one’s gonna kill me. The loneliness was crippling. It was crippling.”

Gifford announced her departure from Today’s popular fourth hour, Today with Kathie Lee and Hoda, in December 2018. Her last show was in April. She revealed that her reason for leaving was personal as well as professional. “I was dying on the vine creatively,” she told Entertainment Tonight earlier this week. “I love Hoda [Kotb], I love everybody at the Today show, but I’m an artist and I have to write music, I have to write oratorios, I have to write books.”

The dating game

Gifford made headlines last summer when pics of her with a gentleman circulated in the media. The former Today star revealed that while she did have a few dates with business man Randall Cronk, no romance resulted from their time together.

“I hadn’t been on a date in 33 years,” she shared, according to People. “It’s surreal because the world has changed so much. He was a gentleman so it was fine, it was fun, but then I got so busy and we’re just from different worlds.”

When asked by Entertainment Tonight about her current dating life, Gifford didn’t hold back. “Of course I’m open [to dating]! Who says I’m not dating somebody?” she said, adding that she would “never” reveal who she’s seeing since “it could be over by tomorrow.”

Gifford shared that she’s “very picky” when it comes to finding a mate and has no intention of trying to replace her husband “I don’t expect any man to ever fill my husband’s cleats, nobody will ever be Frank Gifford,” she said. “I’m not looking for that. I’m not looking for anything. If he comes along, I’ll know. I’m not looking, I’m busy.”

New life in Nashville

The former television personality truly is busy with her new home down south and is enjoying the welcoming environment of Nashville. “The life in Nashville’s amazing. [I love] the community there,” she said. “There’s great music. People love God. They love my wine! So, come on. They love to dance. There are church bells ringing. It’s just exactly what my soul needed.”

Gifford is now embracing her status of being on her own. “I found a group of people down there that let me just be me with no boundaries,” she continued. “And I don’t have to take care of anybody anymore in my life. It’s a new chapter that way. You miss the people you love that have gone on, but it frees you up in a way to become something you’ve only ever dreamed of being.”

Her professional plate is overflowing as well, with several projects in the works. “I’m going to go back to Israel and will shoot three more oratorio films with amazing artists,” Gifford revealed. “I have a couple of movies coming out this year; one with Craig Ferguson that’s finally coming out that I wrote and produced in Scotland. Fun stuff! I have two new books coming out. Busier than ever.”

Fans of Gifford can’t wait to see what she’s up to next!
