What Is Brie Larson’s Net Worth, and How Much Is She Getting Paid for ‘Captain Marvel’?

Actress Brie Larson is poised to make history. Captain Marvel, the first Marvel Studios movie starring a standalone female superhero, will hit big screens on March 8, 2019. Larson stars as Carol Danvers – aka Captain Marvel – in the highly anticipated movie, which will explore the backstory of the character (and by the looks of the trailer, also include plenty of 1990s nostalgia).

The movie may also push the 28-year-old Larson to another level of fame – and another level of wealth. Here’s what we know about Brie Larson’s net worth and her Captain Marvel salary.

Brie Larson is worth $10 million

Celebrity Net Worth estimates that Brie Larson is worth $10 million. She’s been working steadily in Hollywood since her early teens, when she appeared in small parts on shows like Popular and Touched by an Angel. At age 15, she earned a role as Bob Saget’s daughter on the short-lived sitcom Raising Dad. (That show also featured Marvel actress Kat Dennings, who appeared in Thor and Thor: The Dark World.)

Larson gained more fame for movies like Scott Pilgrim vs. The World (2011) and 21 Jump Street (2012) and a supporting part the Showtime series The United States of Tara (2009-2001). But it was her starring role in the 2013 indie film Short Term 12, about a young woman who works at a residential home for troubled teens, that caused people to really take notice of the actress.

In 2015, she starred in Room, as a young woman who is kidnapped and held in captivity for many years. She won the Academy Award for Best Actress for the movie. She followed that up with Kong: Skull Island and The Glass Castle, along with her 2017 directorial debut, Unicorn Store.

In 2016, Marvel announced that Larson would take on the role of Captain Marvel. Vanity Fair called it “the role of a lifetime for any young actress.”

It’s not clear exactly how much Larson got paid for her Captain Marvel role, but Vanity Fair says that it likely wasn’t more than $5 million. However, depending on the terms of her deal with the studio she could earn millions more for future Marvel movies.

A $5 million payday is a far cry from where Larson was earlier in her career. In an interview with the magazine, she recalled sharing a studio apartment with her mother and her sister after her parents divorced and the family relocated to Los Angeles. She bought school uniforms secondhand and more recently was “living off the food in the film-festival welcome gift bags.”

These days, life is much different for Larson. In addition to a successful career, she is engaged to her long-term boyfriend Alex Greenwald, the lead singer of the band Phantom Planet, who has a net worth of his own of $5 million.

What’s next for Larson? In addition to Captain Marvel, she’ll also appear in the untitled fourth Avengers movie, scheduled for release in May 2019. In 2020, she’ll appear with Michael B. Jordan in Just Mercy, an adaptation of a memoir by civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson. It’s directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who also directed her Short Term 12 and The Glass Castle.
