What Is Courteney Cox Doing Now?
Courteney Cox will always be known as Monica Geller to millions of fans around the world.
The 54-year-old actress played the obsessive-compulsive head chef on the hit TV show Friends for 10 years. Throughout the years, Cox has appeared in many standout roles. Let’s take a look at what she’s doing now.
‘Friends’ made unknown actors into celebrities
Back in 1994, no one could have ever imagined the enormous success Friends would become. But by the end of its ten-year run, the show’s stars had turned from relative unknowns to some of the biggest names in Hollywood. Cox was originally asked to audition for the role of Rachel Green, but was eventually cast as Monica Geller.
Cox’s character, Monica, was an integral part of the show’s success. More than any one of the friends, Monica was intermingled into every relationship on the show. Monica was Ross’ sister, Phoebe’s friend, Rachel’s roommate, Joey’s neighbor, and Chandler’s eventual wife. Her character was a strong female who could be depended on to support her friends. Now, millions of people are falling in love with the show all over again, as all 10 seasons are currently on Netflix.
She also played a ‘SCREAM’ queen
Cox really needs to thank her agent for booking her some long running, successful gigs. While Cox was filming Friends, she was also starring in one of the most popular horror franchises of all time, Scream. The actress first appeared in Scream in 1996 as Gale Weathers. The film was a success with audiences and followed up with three more installments, with the final film, Scream 4 released in 2011.
While filming Scream, Cox met fellow actor, David Arquette. The two quickly fell in love and were married on June 12, 1999. The couple had a daughter five years later and named Friends co-star Jennifer Aniston her godmother.
Cox and Arquette separated in 2010 and filed for divorce in 2012. Their divorce was finalized in 2013. In 2010, Arquette went on the Howard Stern show and explained why things didn’t work out between the two. Arquette revealed that his wife told him that she didn’t want to be his mother anymore. He added, “She’s the mother to everyone. That’s why she doesn’t want to be the mother to me anymore.”
Cox had continued success after ‘Friends’
In addition to her success with Scream, Cox continued to work on several other movies and television shows. The actress appeared in the TV series Dirt from 2007-2008. She also guest starred on Lisa Kudrow’s series, Web Therapy.
In 2009, Cox returned to a starring role, playing Jules Cobb on the TV series Cougar Town. Cougar Town aired on ABC for three seasons before moving to TBS. The show aired for three more seasons on TBS before being canceled in 2015.
