What Is Harvey Weinstein Doing Now?
In the midst of sexual assault allegations, Harvey Weinstein, a prominent Hollywood executive and founder of The Weinstein Company, has removed himself from the public eye since allegations were made against him in 2017. Keep reading to learn what Weinstein has been doing lately and what’s going on with his trial.
Allegations against Weinstein
Weinstein’s alleged sexual harassment dating back decades went public when The New York Times published a story detailing the harassment allegations. Accusations included that Weinstein forced women to watch him naked and massage him. Women claim that Weinstein said he’d advance their careers if they performed sexual acts.
Actresses Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd were among the women to come forward in the article, according to BBC. Judd’s encounter with Weinstein took place 20 years ago, the actress told The New York Times.
Also in The New York Times story was a statement from Weinstein. “I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it,” his statement read. “Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go,” Weinstein added.
The day the allegations were made, Weinstein announced he’d be taking a leave of absence from The Weinstein Company but is later fired by the company’s board of directors.
Weinstein’s attorney at the time, Lisa Bloom, resigned on Oct. 7, 2017. “I have resigned as an advisor to Harvey Weinstein. My understanding is that Mr. Weinstein and his board are moving toward an agreement,” she tweeted.
The New York Times quoted Bloom saying Weinstein was “an old dinosaur learning new ways.”
Five days after the story ran in The New York Times, the New Yorker published an article in which 13 additional women went public with allegations against Weinstein. Immediately after, his wife, Marchesa fashion designer, Georgina Chapman, announced that she’d be leaving her husband.
Weinstein arrested in May 2018
Authorities arrested Weinstein in May 2018 on charges of “rape, criminal sex act, sex abuse and sexual misconduct for incidents involving two separate women,” after he turned himself in.
Later released on a $1 million bail, Weinstein was on the receiving end of a class-action lawsuit filed by three women who alleged that he sexually assaulted them.
His trial will begin in New York on June 3, 2019, according to Page Six.
Seen at Grand Central Terminal
Weinstein has been spending time at Grand Central Terminal in New York City, according to Page Six. Weinstein was spotted at Cipriani Dolci at Grand Central Terminal with a group which included a former Miramax assistant turned producer.
A month earlier, Weinstein visited Grand Central Terminal again. He ate at Cipriani Dolci with “a group of men, including a private eye, Herman Weisberg.”
Weinstein may have been meeting with Weisberg and others to discuss the charges against him and other facets of his case.
