What is Jim Acosta from CNN’s Net Worth?
CNN chief White House correspondent Jim Acosta has had a contentious relationship with President Donald Trump. While tense, the relationship went nuclear after a recent heated exchange. During a line of questioning, Trump became agitated with Acosta. A White House intern tried to forcibly remove Acosta’s microphone in order to silence him as Trump railed against Acosta for asking questions, CNN reports.
Following the altercation, The White House issued a doctored video of the encounter, The Washington Post reports. This provided the Trump administration with the basis to ban Acosta from The White House and suspend Acosta’s press pass, CNN reports.
CNN responded, “The revocation of his pass ‘was done in retaliation for his challenging questions at today’s press conference,’ the statement said. “In an explanation, Press Secretary Sarah Sanders lied. She provided fraudulent accusations and cited an incident that never happened. This unprecedented decision is a threat to our democracy and the country deserves better. Jim Acosta has our full support.”
Acosta makes a considerable amount of money in his position at CNN. What is his net worth and can he continue to do his job and hold the government accountable?
Can Acosta still do his job?
Although CNN is pushing back against The White House ban, Acosta is out at The White House. Can he still do his job? “Of course, he can still do his job. In that clip he is doing his job,” Jarvis told TheWrap. “That’s called reporting. I wish we saw a hell of a lot more of it.”
“In trying to do his job, which is to ask sometimes difficult questions of whomever is president, he has exposed the level of hostility, evasion and dissembling to which the current president can descend,” New York University journalism professor Mitchell Stephens added.
However, Ben Shapiro, Daily Wire founder said Acosta should be fired. “If Acosta’s job is to be an objective journalist, he’s terrible at it. If it’s to make headlines about Jim Acosta, he’s terrific at it. Of course CNN should replace him — he has not elicited a productive answer from the White House in months, he’s lending credence to the chief criticisms of CNN, and he’s reveling in the attention he receives.”
During the exchange, NBC’s Peter Alexander tried to temper the president’s attack and was met with, “I’m not a big fan of yours, either” by Trump.
Acosta has an impressive resume
He graduated cum laude from James Madison University with a bachelor’s degree in mass communications and a minor in political science, according to CNN. Upon graduation, he worked at various local news stations and even in radio. He eventually became a correspondent for CBS Newspath from 2001 until 2003. During that time he covered stories like the Washington, D.C.-area sniper and the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks.
Acosta worked for CBS Evening News until becoming a correspondent for CNN in 2007. He covered the 2008 election, along with the inauguration of President Barack Obama and future races. He reported on Donald Trump in 2016 from the campaign trail as CNN’s chief White House correspondent.
What is his net worth and salary?
According to Finapp, Acosta earns $700,000 per year and has a net worth of about $4 million. His net worth increased about 25% over the past few years and he’s treated himself to a few luxuries. His home is worth about $1 million and he owns three luxury cars totaling $420,000. Finapp predicts Acosta’s net worth is only going to increase by 40% over the next few years.
