What is Kate Gosselin’s Biggest Regret From ‘Jon & Kate Plus 8’?
It feels like just yesterday when Jon and Kate Gosselin graced our televisions with their hit TV show, Jon & Kate Plus 8. TLC chronicled the couple’s lives while they cared for their set of twins and sextuplets. And while everything seemed to be on the upswing for Jon and Kate with the success of their show, their relationship took a serious nosedive just a few years after the series premiered. And since their divorce in 2009, the media has been all over the couple’s custody battles for their eight kids and public feuding.
We know Jon stepped away from the show as to not exploit his kids for money, but Kate wanted to keep her family in the spotlight for as long as possible. Does she have any regrets from putting her life and her kids’ lives on TV? Here’s what she’s said.
In 2010, Kate stated she regretted some of the things she said to Jon
When it comes to filming the show and facing public scrutiny and backlash over the years, Kate reportedly regrets nothing. But she does have smaller moments that she wished never happened — especially when it comes to her ex-husband, Jon. Today reports back in 2010, Kate spoke candidly about how she should’ve been more pleasant to Jon over the years.
On Today, she said, “I learned that in the heat of the moment I have a sharp tongue, and looking back there are probably a lot of people that I love that I probably spoke to inappropriately. … I’ve really learned to watch what I say.” In the same segment, she also admitted she was way too harsh on Jon during their marriage. And in her tell-all book, I Just Want You to Know, she confessed, “Much of what I said to Jon was unwarranted.”
While fans may expect Kate has some regrets about thrusting her kids into the spotlight, it seems she’s totally fine with how much attention they’ve gotten over the years. The publication reminds us she said, “I don’t see anything negative they’ve taken from this. If anything, I see the kids and I becoming much closer.”
Jon says he lives with no regrets from filming
Jon’s made it known early on that he didn’t agree with keeping his kids on TV. But when it comes to starting the show in the first place, he’s also claimed he doesn’t regret the fame or attention it brought him.
Back in 2013, Today reports Jon talked to Entertainment Tonight about his new home “in the woods” and his job waiting tables. While he was worried about the public’s reaction to him working in the restaurant industry at first, he then realized the job is “fun, and I get to talk to people, and they, like, technically already know me.” He also added that finding other work was “next to nearly impossible” due to his reality TV stint, but he was doing his best to bounce back.
Seeing as Jon had to resort to restaurant life at the time, many assumed he wished he never filmed the show. But, as he told Entertainment Tonight, “I don’t regret anything. Because you learn from your mistakes. That’s what builds you into who you are today.”
Kate’s biggest regret was her need to be in control
Kate may wish she spoke to Jon differently during her marriage, but when it comes to her biggest regret, it’s all about her own anxieties and need for control. In 2016, Kate told People, “If I could go back, I wouldn’t spend so much time worrying about the messes and the obsessive compulsiveness and needing to be so in control.” Instead, she wished she spent more time “nibbling little feet” and “cuddling up” while her kids were still young. “I came on way too strong. I should have just rolled around on the floor some. I wouldn’t have melted down as much,” she added.
Has Kate loosened up since then? We’ll have to wait and find out on her next reality series, Kate Plus Date.
