What is Kate Middleton and Prince William’s Biggest Parenting Challenge They’re Facing Now?

We all know raising kids isn’t easy and even though their royalty when it comes to bringing up two princes and one princess, Kate Middleton and Prince William still go through some of the same struggles as other parents. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge recently spoke during an engagement at the BBC to mark Anti-Bullying Week and revealed what the biggest parenting challenge they are faced with now is.

Here’s more on what they are finding so difficult to handle as they raise their children plus the most important parenting rule they already have in place for their little ones.

What their biggest parenting challenge is?

The dilemma William and Middleton have on their hands has to do with bringing up Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis in the digital world. William said that he is concerned about finding that balance between quality family time and how much time is spent on the internet. He admitted that even now with his children still being so young it’s something they haven’t mastered yet.

“We still haven’t worked out what the right balance is for online time,” the royal revealed. “It’s quite difficult, it’s still a very fluid dynamic.”

The prince and his wife didn’t grow up in an age where everyone was constantly attached to their mobile phones. However, the duke knows his children will and he and the duchess are trying to decide just how much time on those devices is too much.

“How on earth are we going to police and have family time when the phones are all put down and you’re offline? Because we’re all so connected now that we’ve got to say for instance, ‘we’re eating now,'” William said, adding, “This generation is going to be the first generation to grow up fully immersed in mobile phones, social media, lots of stuff. And yet our generation, the older generation, the parent generation, we’re completely left at, ‘how do we deal with this? Where do we go to? Where do you learn about how to look after your children’s digital world?'”

While the Duke of Cambridge did acknowledge the benefits of social media, he said he is “worried that our technology companies still have a great deal to learn about the responsibilities that come with their significant power.”

Most important rule they have for their children

When it comes to rules for their royal children Middleton and the prince have a few already in place for them.

One of the most important Cambridge house rules is that Prince George and Princess Charlotte (and Prince Louis when he’s older) are always open about their feelings. The duke and duchess want their children to always be honest when it comes to expressing their emotions because it can be difficult living in the public eye. Therefore, William and Middleton make sure their kids know to talk to them about how they’re feeling.
