When Prince William and Kate Middleton announced their engagement in late 2010, royal fans already thought that they knew her pretty well. After all, she had been dating Prince William for nearly 10 years prior, and even though they had broken up once, it didn’t last long before they got right back together.

Some were skeptical about the pairing, wondering if Middleton would buckle under the pressures of royal life.

Middleton has more than proved the naysayers wrong, and since her 2011 wedding to Prince William, she has seemingly been thriving in her role. She has made an impression on members of the public, and people all over the world truly seem to love Middleton.

Even after giving birth to three children, Middleton stays calm, cool, and collected. In fact, friends of Middleton say that her relaxed personality makes her perfect for the difficult life of a royal and that she’s just as level-headed and well-behaved as she seems to be in photos and video clips.

Kate Middleton is probably a lot of fun

As much as Middleton’s life is focused on speaking engagements, charitable work, and meetings with dignitaries, she also finds time for more fun royal duties. She occasionally competes in various sporting events opposite her husband, Prince William. It is during these moments of fun and relaxation, where royal experts say that her real personality, what she’s like behind closed doors, really shines.

In a recent royal family documentary, an expert pointed to those tournaments and sporting events, as well as moments when she’s interacting with small children, as when the “true Kate” comes out. Her facial expressions are fun and lively, revealing that she really knows how to have a great time, even when dozens of cameras are trained on her every move.

This can be seen in a video of a recent yachting regatta, where Middleton competed against her husband and multiple other contestants. Ultimately, Middleton finished in last place, but her facial expressions were nothing less than joyful, and when she was presented with a giant wooden spoon at the end of the match, she laughed out loud.

There’s no doubt that these moments of fun and good energy endear the public to Middleton even more.

What’s next for Kate Middleton?

In the coming years, Middleton will have less and less time for fun and frivolity. As Prince William prepares to assume the throne within, likely, the next decade, Middleton will be at his side, working and training right along with him. In addition to that, she has her three children — Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis — to raise.

Still, it seems unlikely that Middleton will ever lose her sense of fun and gaiety that makes her such an asset to the royal family. In a time when the royals are hit with negative press on an almost daily basis, Middleton can always be counted on to draw some positive attention to the monarchy.
