What Is Prince Andrew’s Relation to Jeffrey Epstein?
The public knowledge of Jeffrey Epstein’s web of connections to powerful people continues to grow even after his death by apparent suicide, while he awaited trial for a wide range of sexual crimes against minors. One of the people who has been squarely in that web in the past is none other than Prince Andrew, brother to Prince Charles and son of the Queen.
Just what is Prince Andrew’s relationship to Epstein? It’s a long friendship that began decades ago and has ensnared the royal in multiple accusations.
Jeffrey Epstein had many powerful connections
Prince Andrew is just one of many powerfully connected people that have ties to Epstein. Donald Trump once bragged about his long friendship with Epstein and spoke highly of his connection to beautiful young women by saying: “He’s a lot of fun to be with. It is even said that he likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side. No doubt about it — Jeffrey enjoys his social life.”
Former President Bill Clinton was also connected to Epstein and traveled on Epstein’s private jet multiple times as part of philanthropic work for the Clinton Foundation. Some of those trips included actors Chris Tucker and Kevin Spacey.
Ghislaine Maxwell is a famous British socialite who once dated Epstein. She is also accused of helping him procure young women by luring them to him with false promises of legitimate work.
Prince Andrew met Jeffrey Epstein in the ’90s
Maxwell was the connection between Epstein and Prince Andrew. She introduced the pair in the 1990s, and they reportedly flew together to Epstein’s private island in 1999.
In 2000, both Epstein and Maxwell attended a party hosted by the Queen called the Dance of the Decade. Prince Andrew’s 40th birthday was among the events being celebrated. Maxwell and Prince Andrew would be spotted and photographed together at multiple locations, and Prince Andrew threw Maxwell a surprise party—with Epstein as a guest—for her own birthday.
Allegations of sexual misconduct against Epstein began surfacing in 2005, and in 2008 he took a controversial plea deal, serving 18 months for the crime of soliciting a minor for prostitution.
Prince Andrew was photographed meeting with Epstein in 2010 after Epstein was released from prison. There is also footage that shows Prince Andrew inside Epstein’s mansion around the same time. These meetings caused a public uproar, and there was fuel thrown on the fire when Prince Andrew’s ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, admitted to taking money from Epstein to help pay down her debts.
What accusations does Prince Andrew face?
While simply being willingly connected to a known sex offender was controversial enough, Prince Andrew’s friendship with Epstein would grow even darker.
In 2015, Prince Andrew was named in a U.S. civil case. A woman named Virginia Giuffre accused Epstein of keeping her as a sex slave and forcing her to perform sexual acts for powerful men, including Prince Andrew. She was underage at the time and alleges that Maxwell met her at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort and lured her to Epstein. There is a photo of Prince Andrew with his arm around Giuffre while Maxwell stands in the background.
A separate case involves a woman named Johanna Sjoberg who alleges that Prince Andrew groped her breast while she was at Epstein’s apartment. These allegations only recently became known when older sealed court documents were ordered to be publicly released.
While the royal family denies these allegations, the Queen has worked to hide her son from the public eye and show a united front of support. As new details emerge and more investigations occur, it is possible that the public will learn more about Prince Andrew’s connections to Epstein—and potentially his crimes.
