What Is the Nickname Kate Middleton Calls Prince George and Princess Charlotte?
When it comes to names members of the royal family have plenty of them. They, of course, have the name they were given at birth, their regal titles, secret code names for their protection, and cute nicknames given to them by other royals. It’s now been revealed what nickname Kate Middleton uses for Prince George and Princess Charlotte after the duchess was heard using it when the trio was spotted out shopping.
Here’s the nickname Middleton called both of her children while they were out and about, plus some other nicknames different members of the royal family have for each other.
Middleton’s adorable nickname for her children
On Dec. 23, 2018, Prince William’s wife was seen out with two of their kids grabbing some last-minute Christmas presents at The Range in King’s Lynn. The store is located in Norfolk near the queen’s Sandringham estate where the family is spending the holiday.
A fellow shopper named Sarah Daniels told The Express that she overheard the adorable nickname Middleton used for the young royals.
“As I was looking at the shelves I noticed a tall dark-haired lady further down the aisle and thought to myself ‘I recognize that face,” Daniels said. According to the 43-year-old teacher, at one point Princess Charlotte sat down on the floor in the aisle before her mother said to her, “Get up, poppet. Daniels then recalled that George asked his mom if they could buy dinosaur slime and Middleton then called her son “poppet” as well.
Daniels added, “It seemed like a lovely family outing for them the day before Christmas Eve. We are used to all the pomp and ceremony that goes with the royal family but it was great to see Kate shopping with her children in the kind of discount store the rest of us use.”
Middleton’s youngest child, Prince Louis, was not shopping with his mother and siblings but since the duchess referred to her other children this way we’re wondering if she calls little Louis “poppet” too.
Other royals have nicknames for each other
It’s not just the Duchess of Cambridge who uses nicknames, in fact, several other members of the royal family have unique nicknames for one another that they use behind palace walls.
Prince Philip calls his wife, Queen Elizabeth, “cabbage.” Royal biographer Robert Lacey previously shared that information with The Sunday Times saying, “Yes, I’ve heard that is how he will sometimes refer to her.”
Prince Charles also uses a unique nickname for his daughter-in-law, Meghan Markle. The Prince of Wales calls the former actress “Tungsten,” which is inspired by the very strong metal known for its robustness. He reportedly gave her the name to match the strength and determination she displays.
“It began when I was 2. I’ve been rightfully told because I can’t remember back that far but when we went to Australia with our parents, and the wombat, you know, that’s the local animal,” Harry explained about why his brother got that name.
