What Is the Original ‘Lizzie McGuire’ Cast Doing Now?

Lizzie McGuire has grown up so much, she’s getting a new series on Disney+, which will see her character in her 30s, just like Hilary Duff is in real life.

There will be one key difference between art and life, however: Duff has divided her time between New York and Los Angeles,  but the series will have Lizzie living in the Big Apple — at least initially.

Now that the stage is set, it’s a good time to see what Duff has been up to in recent years, and find out where her castmates have been as well.

What is Hilary Duff doing now?

Duff, who turned 32 in September,  remains the most visible member of the cast, with Lizzie McGuire being her initial claim to fame. Her current gig is the show Younger, which has just been renewed for a seventh season, making it TV Land’s longest-running original series. She also recently played the title role in The Haunting of Sharon Tate

Duff has also maintained an on-again, off-again music career, which began around the time of Lizzie McGuire and she had five top 10 albums, including two number 1 albums: Metamorphosis and Most Wanted. Her most recent record was 2015’s Breathe in, Breathe Out, which peaked at Number 5.

On the personal front, Huff is engaged and has two children. She told Vulture of the Lizzie revival, “It’s been in talks for so many years with Disney, and I kept a great relationship with them. It’s so great that I can talk about this now!I obviously love Lizzie so much. We’re connected and tethered at the soul for life.”

What are Duff’s co-stars doing now?

According to Insider, Adam Lamberg played Lizzie’s friend Gordo, but he left show business and stays out of the public eye. Duff told Vulture she was OK that Lizzie didn’t end up with Gordo, saying, “it’s that one person that you’re like, Was he the one? Is it ever going to be? You’re always kind of wondering. We wanted it to hurt everyone a little bit, and it’ll continue to hurt. I really hope he’s going to be involved.”

Yani Gellman, who played Paulo has appeared in The Young and the Restless, Pretty Little Liars, and the movies Jason X and 47 Meters Down/. Lalaine, who played Miranda appeared in Easy A with Emma Stone. Alex Borstein who played Miss Ungermeyer, lays Susie Myerson on  Amazon’s acclaimed The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

Hailie Todd, who played Lizzie’s mom Jo, has gone on to appear in The Mooring and The Champion. Robert Carradine, who played Lizzie’s dad, produced the 2017 movie Solitary Confinement, and was in the  2018 horror film Specter.

Todd, Carradine, and Jake Thomas will join Duff in reprising their roles on the series.

What will the new show be like?

The original show ran from 2001 to 2004 and spawned the theatrical Lizzie McGuire Movie in 2003, with the run of the show more or less coinciding with the launch of Duff’s music career.

The updated Lizzie does not have a premiere date yet, but Duff is looking forward to introducing audiences to a grown-up McGuire. The revival, which just began shooting last week,  will find Lizzie at a crossroads, as she is forced to move from New York.

Duff told Vulture, “I think stepping into the role as a 30-year-old trying to navigate life is equally interesting. Or more specifically, waking up on your 30th birthday and thinking, This isn’t how I planned this to look, what do I do now? That’s an interesting story to me, and that’s a good journey I want to go on with everyone again who was there for her preteen years.”
