What’s the Title of ‘Avengers 4’? Here’s Every Clue We Have So Far

Avengers: Infinity War

A few months ago, Marvel fans expected the long-anticipated title of Avengers 4 to be unveiled when Ant-Man and the Wasp was released in theaters. But that day has finally come, and we still don’t know what the sequel to Infinity War is going to be called.

However, we do have information that can be used to make an educated guess and rule out some contenders. Here’s everything we know about the title of Avengers 4 so far.

It would have spoiled Infinity War (maybe)

Why, exactly, has Marvel been so secretive about the Avengers 4 title? The studio usually announces the names of its movies years in advance, so this was a first.

Well, back in 2017, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige said that the title of the movie is actually a spoiler for Infinity War, and this is why it hasn’t been revealed.

Feige later walked back that quote a bit, saying that it was blown out of proportion. From the way Feige later explained it, it sounds more like Marvel didn’t want to focus on Avengers 4 at all before Infinity War, and he felt that unveiling any information about it, including the title, would clue general audiences into the fact that Infinity War would not end with Thanos being defeated. Still, he never specifically said that the title is definitely not a spoiler.

It’s not Infinity Gauntlet

The earliest rumor about the title was that it was Infinity Gauntlet. This would make sense, as it’s the name of the comic book that inspired Infinity War.

In addition, Zoe Saldana said in an interview last year that she was in the middle of shooting Infinity War and that she would have to “go back for Gauntlet later this year.”

Fans were convinced that Saldana had accidentally slipped up and revealed the title, but director James Gunn later came out and flat out said that Infinity Gauntlet isn’t the name of the movie and that she just misspoke.

It’s supposedly not spoken in Infinity War

A lot of guesses at the title can be ruled out with this quote from the Russo Brothers.

In an interview with Uproxx, they said that the name of the movie is not spoken in Infinity War. This would seem to rule out options like Avengers: End Game, since Doctor Strange says in Infinity War, “We’re in the endgame now.”

The cinematographer listed Avengers: End Game on his website

But wait. Recently, the cinematographer of Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers 4 updated his credits to say that he worked on Avengers: End Game.

Marvel fans went crazy over this news thinking that the title had been confirmed. The cinematographer later removed this and just listed the movie as Avengers 4.

This contradicts the Russo Brothers’ statement that the title isn’t spoken in Infinity War. But it’s possible they were lying or just being tricky since technically the words “Avengers: End Game” aren’t spoken in the movie.

Avengers: Forever is close

In addition to Avengers: End Game, another popular title guess is Avengers: Forever.

This isn’t the name of the movie, but according to the Russo Brothers, it’s the closest anyone has come to guessing the real title.

It’s reportedly not Avengers: Eternity

Yet another popular guess is Avengers: Eternity, which would both fit with the rumored time-travel plot and the speculated debut of the character by that name.

But Steven Weintraub from Collider reported back in May that according to his sources, this is definitely not the title.

We won’t know it for a few more months

Expect to be waiting a lot longer for the title to be officially announced. In a recent interview, Kevin Feige said that the name of the movie won’t be unveiled until later this year.

“That’ll be after the Captain Marvel teaser probably, announcing that title,” he said. “It’ll be towards the end of the year with however we launch that film.”
