What Meghan Markle Really Thought of Donald Trump the First Time She Met Him

President Donald Trump’s U.K. visit began on Monday, June 3, when he and first lady Melania Trump arrived at Buckingham Palace and were greeted by Queen Elizabeth II. This follows a weekend in which the president made headlines for calling out Prince Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle. The Duchess of Sussex is not a fan of Trump and this stems from their very first meeting.

Here’s what Markle thought of Trump when she first met him and why she decided not to take him up on his offer.

When Markle met Trump

Markle met Trump years before she was a duchess and he was President of the United States.

From 2006 to 2007 Markle worked as a briefcase model on the game show Deal or No Deal and it was during that time that she met Trump who visited the set while promoting The Apprentice. However, the former actress reportedly thought Trump was a “creep” and kept her distance.

Princess Diana’s biographer Andrew Morton, who authored the book Meghan: A Hollywood Princess, wrote that Trump “gave girls his card and invited them to play golf at one of his courses.” Morton claimed that another former case model told him “Meghan was one of the girls who gave him a wide berth.”

Speaking on the Royal Box, commentator Daisy McAndrew relayed a similar story and said that “Meghan thought he was a creep” and did not accept the invitation.

A decade after their very first meeting, Markle called then-candidate Trump a “misogynist” and “divisive” during his 2016 campaign.

Did Trump call the duchess ‘nasty’?

During an interview with The Sun, President Trump was asked if he knew about the comments Markle had made about him when he was running for president.

“No, I didn’t know that she was nasty,” Trump responded when he was told about her remarks

The U.S. president later denied calling the duchess “nasty.” Unfortunately, a tweet from an account that was supposed to back up Trump’s claim played the audio of him saying exactly that.

Trump did have a few nice things to say about Markle though following the “nasty” dig. When he asked about having an American princess Trump said, “I think it’s nice and I’m sure she will do excellently.”

Markle and Trump won’t see each other during visit

Luckily, Markle and Trump will not have to see each other during his visit as she is still on maternity leave after giving birth to her and Harry’s first child, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor.

Markle’s husband, however, did meet with the U.S. president on Monday. People noted that the Duke of Sussex attended a private luncheon hosted by his grandmother before viewing a special exhibition in the Picture Gallery, along with several members of Trump’s family.

Let’s hope things weren’t too awkward between them.
